Staffing
⦿ In September we will have 2 parallel
Reception classes, RS and RKS.
⦿ The class teachers will be Sus March and
Kate Nightingale / Seren Quested.
⦿ We also have support staff working in
Reception:
▶ Learning Support Assistants: Elisha & Charlie ▶ Apprentices: Kayleigh, Emily & Gaby
Starting in September
Children who currently attend Brookfield nursery will all start on the same day and stay for a full day. Children who are new to Brookfield will be gradually inducted, 2 each day in each class.
▶
You should have received a letter with a start date. On this day you will meet with Mark, the Head Teacher, and then bring your child to their classroom.
▶
Their first day will be a half day. And you will need to collect your child at 11.50
We want your children to have a happy start to their time at school, and will work with you on an individual basis to help ensure they settle as quickly and confidently as possible.
Arrival and Collection
⦿ Your child needs to arrive at school by 8:55. ⦿ Children should be taken to their classrooms by
their parent/carer through the hall
⦿ For the first few weeks of Autumn term, we
welcome you to stay in the classroom to read to your child (and others, probably!) We will ask that you leave by 9:10 am.
⦿ Children are collected at 3:30 from their
classrooms; RS through the tunnel and RKS through the hall

Characteristics of Effective Learning
HOW children learn rather than WHAT children learn. ⦿Playing and Exploring ⦿Active Learning ⦿Creating and Thinking Critically
At Brookfield, one of the ways we support the characteristics of effective learning is through the use of soft toys which embody these characteristics: Cody Curious, Harry Hardworker and Ivy Imagination
Outdoor Learning
⦿ Outdoor area and tunnel
Forest School
⦿ All reception children
will have the opportunity throughout the year to attend Forest School sessions. ⦿We will alternate between classes, taking half a class at a time.
A day in Reception…
▶ Carpet Sessions for whole
class teaching
▶ Adult-initiated activities ▶ Child-initiated activities ▶ Tidy up time ▶ Story time ▶ Fruit or vegetables and
water are available to children all day
Lunchtime
The Reception children eat in the main school hall at lunchtime, and are always served first. We have a fantastic kitchen team who prepare and cook fresh food
- n the school premises, and the
quality of our school lunches is very high. Children may bring a packed lunch if you would prefer. After lunch, the children go out to play.

Focus Children
- Each class will have two focus children each week
starting in October. Over the course of the year every child will be a focus child twice.
- The week before, you will be sent a letter asking you
about anything significant happening in your child’s life.
- The team will focus on your child for observations and
planning, enabling us to know your child at a greater depth.
- Your child can bring in a special object from home to
share with the class.
- Teachers will meet with parents/carers the following
week to share observation and children’s work.
- These meetings will replace open evening appointments
which take place across the rest of the school.
Helping your child be ready for school
It will really help your child if they are as independent as possible.
› Manage their own shoes and coats › Being able to change on their own › Being able to cut and eat their food › Use the toilet independently
Helping children transition
› Share books about starting school › Talk about things that will stay the
same
Communication
⦿ Both reception
classes have a notice board which we update throughout the year
⦿ Each class will have a
