  4. NAVIANCE Naviance is a comprehensive website that you will use to make plans about colleges, careers and to make your application process easier. Request your transcripts to be sent to colleges. Transcripts can be sent  electronically to most schools. Sign up to visit with college representatives and receive email reminders about the  visits. Request recommendations  Research colleges and manage your applications in one location.  Research careers regarding education, wages, common tasks, etc.  Take assessments that will suggest careers to which you are well suited.  Research scholarships  ACT preparation  www.jenksms.com  ◦ User name: Jenks email without “ jenksms.com ” ◦ Password: chromebook password

College Admission Testing ACT - English, Math, Reading , Science, Optional Writing test To register for the ACT: www.actstudent.org - SAT: Math, Critical Reading., Optional Writing test SAT Optional -Subject tests To register for the SAT: sat.org/register  Students should take each test at least once and then focus on the one that is better suited to them All colleges and universities will take either the ACT or SAT  Check with schools to learn exact testing requirements. Do they require the writing  portion or SAT Subject tests?  Have ACT/SAT send scores directly to the schools of your choice. Most schools are interested in the highest scores. Send all of your test scores so they can see all of the subscores.  OU and OSU have residual tests available, but you may only take it once.

Research Potential Schools Attend College Fairs: Tulsa College Fair  2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  Sunday, April 2 nd , 2-4pm  University of Tulsa Reynolds Center 3208 E. 8th St. College Fair Tip: Register for college fairs at www.gotocollegefairs.com, print off barcode and the colleges will scan your barcode to get all of your information.

Students MUST register to attend the visits.

  14. Research Potential Schools School Visits Students should visit several institutions (public and private, large & small)  during typical days – not just on a game day! Visit a class, a professor, dorms rooms, financial aid, and student center.  Ask questions!!!  Talk to other students.  Rate each visit, listing likes and dislikes,  Students need to take the lead in speaking with  professors and admission counselors.

  16. Admission Terminology Early Decision – apply early (usually November 1) and receive notification of  acceptance prior to Winter Break. If accepted you must go to this school. Early Action – apply early (usually November 1) and receive notification of  acceptance prior to Winter Break. Acceptance is not binding. Regular Decision – applications usually due prior to February 1 and receive  notification in the spring. Rolling Admission – admission process in which school review applications as they are  received and notifies applicants after decision. Scholarship Deadlines may be different than application deadlines.

  17. Submit applications to schools When to apply - the earlier, the better!  Don’ t apply to more than 6 schools.  First, create a resume. Quality is more important than quantity.  Applications are online . You can access the college applications through  Naviance or by going to the schools ’ website. READ! Re-READ!! Carefully read all instructions prior to completing your  application! Once you submit application, you cannot resubmit it.  Check deadline dates - What is application deadline? What is scholarship deadline  Is scholarship application separate  Are teacher or counselor recommendations required?  Testing requirements  Essays Requirements – Take time writing and rewriting essays. Don ’ t stress about “ what are they wanting ” Let them know who you are.  Get Organized!!

Submit applications to schools  Professional email address.  Social media: If it doesn’t pass the “grandmother” test, DON”T DO IT!  Proofread the application before submitting.  Request transcripts through your Naviance account.  Your transcript will have the “Best”, “Last” and “Best Subscores ” for both the ACT and SAT.  You should have your scores sent directly to your schools from ACT and SAT. Many schools require that test scores be sent directly from ACT and SAT.

Submit applications to schools THE COMMON APPLICATION WWW.COMMONAPP.ORG  One application for more than 600 public and private schools throughout the country.  Oklahoma schools on Common App: OU, TU, OK City Univ.  Check for supplements, deadlines and admission fees of each school.  Secondary School Reports for the Common App are completed by Mrs. Nassar.  You have to match your Common App and Naviance.

  20. Teacher and Counselor Recommendations  Find out how many teacher recommendations you need. Don’t ask for more than you need or ask teachers “just in case”. Speak with your teachers and Mrs. Nassar as soon  as possible to request a recommendation. Allow teachers/college office at least 15 working  days to prepare a letter of recommendation. Complete Information for Recommendations survey  under the About Me tab in Naviance. DETAILS!! DETAILS!! Please provide as much details as possible. Under the College tab in Naviance, you will request  your teacher recommendations. Should I waive my rights to see my recommendations? Yes
