What is a Title I school? • Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and state academic assessments. • Schools qualify for Title I funds based on the school's percentage of students who meet the criteria to receive free or reduced lunch.

  6. What are our school’s Title I requirements? Lake Forest Elementary is a Schoolwide Title I School. In a schoolwide school, all students are eligible under Title I, Part A, and therefore benefit from Title I resources.

  7. What is our school’s Designation Status? • Lake Forest has been designated as a Focus School for the 2016-2017 school year. • A Focus School is one that has within-school achievement gaps between the highest-and lowest achieving subgroups

Lake Forest Schoolwide Program – Past and Present • What are our schoolwide goals? • Increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding STAR reading by at least 30% - from 30% to 60% • Increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding Benchmark Assessment System grade level literacy by 10% in each grade level. • Decrease the percentage of students in Intervention or Urgent Intervention in STAR Math benchmarks by 20%, from 24% to 14%

Flexible Learning Program • Focus schools are required to develop and offer a Flexible Learning Program (FLP). • FLP is a supplemental academic intervention program that provides extra academic support to students in the area of math. • Instructional support will be offered during the school day by a highly qualified math teacher along with a scientific research-based computer assisted instructional component.

What tests will my child be taking? • Grades 3 – 5 • Georgia Milestones • 3 rd Grade – Language Arts and Math • 4 th Grade – Language Arts and Math • 5 th Grade - Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science • Achievement Levels on Georgia Milestones • Beginning Learners do not yet demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level of learnings, as specified in Georgia’s content standards • Developing Learners demonstrate partial proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level of learnings, as specified in Georgia’s content standards • Proficient Learners demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level of learnings, as specified in Georgia’s content standards • Distinguished Learners demonstrate advanced proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level of learnings, as specified in Georgia’s content standards • Grades 3 & 5 • ITBS – Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science • K – 5 – STAR Math and Reading • K – 5 – BAS Literacy Assessment

What is required by law for parent involvement? • District Parent Involvement Statement • School’s Parent Involvement Plan • School-Parent Compact • Notification of School Status • 1% of Title I School Allocation must be reserved for Parent Involvement • Academic parent workshops • Provide parents with information on school curriculum and student assessments and progress. • Give parents the opportunity for input on district and school parent and family engagement programs.

  14. Parent’s Right to Know • All Title I schools must provide notification to all parents regarding their right to request teacher and paraprofessional qualifications. This parent right-to-know notification is sent home at the beginning of the school year. • 100% of our teachers are highly qualified.

  15. How will the school use its 1% Title I Parental Involvement funds? Parent Involvement Budget: • Parent Workshops • Training • Salary for Olivia Sanchez, Title I Parent Liaison • Supplies for Parent Resource Center

  16. What opportunities does the school provide for building parent capacity in the school? • On-going parent workshops including: technology, information on your rights, how to help your child at home, etc. • Volunteer opportunities (tutoring, copying, making materials for teachers, interpreting) • Supporting PTA programs • Leadership opportunities through Room Parent, PTA, and School Governance Council • Parent Resource Center • Family Events (Thanksgiving Dinner, Carnival, Trick or Trunk, Publix Math Night, Read Across America, Book Character Dress Up Day, etc.)
