  6. The S4 Curriculum: • This is the first year of the Senior Phase. • Pupils will continue with their Health & Wellbeing core curriculum (PE, PSE & RMPS), English and Mathematics along with 5 of the 7 courses studied in S3. • Pupils are therefore required to drop two of their current S3 subjects. • If pupils wish to choose one of the courses delivered by Fife College (either on campus in QAHS, or off-site at the college campus in Rosyth/Halbeath) then they are able to do this. These courses are marked with an * in column F of the course choice form. • Successful completion of courses in S4 in most cases will result in the achievement of a National 3, National 4 or National 5 SQA Qualification (or equivalent e.g. SCQF level 3, 4 or 5). 7. The S4 Curriculum – courses delivered by Fife College staff: • Courses delivered by fully qualified Fife College staff run on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm onwards (periods 6 & 7). • Some courses are delivered in the school (e.g. N5 Administration and N5 Business Management) and others requiring more specialist learning environments are delivered in the college campus (Halbeath or Rosyth). • Pupils choosing a college course which is delivered off-campus are required to travel to the college for 2pm. Pupils travel during period 5 on Mon & Wed which is core H&Wb time (1 period of PSE and 1 period of core PE). The timetable has been developed to ensure pupils do not miss any teaching time from their National Qualification subjects. Bus passes are provided free from the school. 10. Do your research and make informed choices! • Research what national qualifications (and what grades) are required for college and university courses that your child is interested in. • In order to progress directly into apprenticeships and employment particular qualifications are also likely to be required. • Do your research before making choices. 11. Do your research and make informed choices! • Think about gathering a portfolio of qualifications and skills across the three years of the Senior Phase e.g. national qualifications and skills developed through work experience, volunteering and contribution to extracurricular activities. • Only the most competitive university courses require 5 Highers in one sitting e.g. medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry… These courses will also expect evidence (approx. 200 hours) of relevant work experience and the development of specific skills e.g. fine motor coordination skills for dentistry developed through model making, sewing, knitting, sculpting, sport… Personal Best Human aspect of our school Self-worth

  12. Do your research and make informed choices! • Find out as much as you can from teachers, colleges, universities, current students at college/university, Skills Development Scotland (SDS) etc. www.myworldofwork.co.uk www.ucas.com Personal Best Human aspect of our school Self-worth

  13. The S5 Curriculum • Pupils can choose a mixture of National Qualifications: N3, N4, N5 and N6 (Higher). • Higher qualifications are allocated 6 periods of 50 minutes each week. • National Qualifications (N3-N5) are allocated 4 periods of 50 minutes each week. • Pupils in S5 receive 2 core periods of Health & Wellbeing each week. • As with S4 pupils S5 pupils can also choose courses delivered by Fife College.
