Changes to recycling collections in 2020
Marlborough Area Board Tuesday 19 November 2019 Martin Litherland Head of Waste Management
What is happening?
- The way we collect materials for recycling will change in
the new year
- Some recycling collection days may change
- Residents will receive further information through the
post, including details of new collection days, in advance
- f changes being made
- View your new collection days and print a collection
calendar from the council’s website once these days have been confirmed
We are making it even easier to recycle at home
- In addition to plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cardboard boxes, food
and drink cartons, you will be able to include paper, food and drink cans, aerosols and foil in your blue lidded bin
- Please rinse and squash your recycling where possible
- If your cartons have a lid, put them back on
- Plastic film, black plastic and flower pots cannot be recycled in the blue
lidded bin
What else can you recycle?
You will continue to use your black box for glass and textiles
- Clean, dry textiles must be bagged and tied
- No duvets, sleeping bags or unpaired shoes
Why are we making changes?
- The changes will make it even easier for residents to use the kerbside
recycling collection service and will reduce the number of vehicles we use
- Fewer vehicles means a reduction in our impact on the environment
- A new materials recovery facility is being built which will sort the mixed
recycling, reducing the requirement for residents to separate their recyclable materials at home
Further information
- All collections will remain fortnightly
- Sign up for email alerts on the waste pages of our website, to ensure
you are kept up to date with service developments
- If you think you need a larger blue-lidded bin or an additional blue
lidded bin you can register via the council’s website via the following link
wiltshire.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling-collection-changes
How can we help you to help your community?
Town and parish councils and community groups play a key role within communities. We wish to work with you to advise residents of these service changes. If you would like assistance with:
- Writing an article to be published in your town or parish magazine or
community newsletter
- Obtaining information for your town or village website or community
Facebook site
- Requesting posters for you to display within your area
- Inviting a waste officer to a parish council or other local meeting to talk about
these changes Please email wasteandrecycling@wiltshire.gov.uk
End Destination Charter
- Voluntary scheme developed by the Resource Association to promote
- penness and transparency over end destinations of waste
- We are a signatory to the charter and we publish an annual return on its
website http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/what-happens-to-recycling
- Provides clarity as to where materials collected for recycling are sent for
reprocessing
- In 2018/19, 89% of all of the waste collected for recycling, composting and re-
use was managed within the UK
