Our system combines the best technology for the capture of high resolution topology, as well as extremely detailed texture maps. The system is made up of two differing processes. The first
- Head Scanning - captures extremely high resolution
topology, and the second - Technical Photography - ensures maximum detail in texture maps. We offer these scanning services both at our studio in Berlin, and on location. The fully portable system enables us to travel to any location, prioritizing our clients’ production schedules, without sacrificing excellent quality.

We offer two solutions for body scanning. We will recommend the best approach depending on the availability
- f your talent, your production schedule or the dynamism of
the posing, The first solution includes a Multi-Camera Scanning System adapted to suit the capture of the full body. This option is ideal for dynamic posing. We will also utilise the Technical Photography process to ensure we capture unique detailing such as tattoos and birthmarks etc. The second solution includes the use of a Hand-Held Portable Scanner. This option is better-suited to limited time-scheduling with the talent.

The skin texture is the most immediate and essential component which can truly characterize a believably living, breathing, and organic 3D character. The accurate creation of details such as pore definition, sweat and natural blemishes are at the heart of realism in 3D, and it is this artistry which we have refined over the years at Mimic. Our services include the full development of realistic skin textures both with and without the use of a 3D scanner, which means our clients can expect realism in a fictional (or even deceased) 3D creation.
AGEING TECHNIQUES
Mimic has had the incredible opportunity to work closely with medical doctors specializing in the cosmetic impact of the ageing process. From skin elasticity to levels of radiance and disintegration of bone structure, we are highly experienced in the re-creation of the physical effects of ageing. The depth of these experiences also lent itself to the creation of the "ideal" face, including the facial proportions, structure and skin conditions associated with the scientific definition of "beauty.”

HAIR + CLOTH
There are three different strategies used to model and animate hair/cloth. The first is a Simulation, which is used to create life-like, dynamic movement and is commonly used in high-end animated films. The second strategy is Bone-Driven, where visually the hair/cloth does not flow as naturally, and the final strategy is Non-Dynamic (Rigid Skin Binding) which is defined by a hair or cloth-like texture. We are experienced in all three strategies, so depending on your vision, budget and time frame we'd be happy to advise and create your ideal 3D solution.
Not only real, but cartoony too! As well as specialising in 3d humans, we build creatures, animals and cartoon characters that suit your needs best. When lighting a digital asset, it is important that you are familiar with the varying texture maps and shaders in the 3D object to ensure the best quality and realism. At Mimic, our skilled lighting artists work directly with our texturing department to ensure that the 3D asset is optimized for the desired lighting condition.
CAMERA ANIMATION
Camera Animation can be described as "Digital Cinematography", and the particularly exciting aspect to cinematography outside of the live realm, is that in 3D, there are no physical limitations or boundaries! We would be happy to either work directly with your Art Director to develop the angles, shots and cuts in your project, or we can offer our creative "digital cinematography" alongside our Camera Animation services and develop the creative edit in-house.

Head/Face Tracking is a service we offer to compliment our Digital Face Replacement services. Essentially, the tracking of an actor’s head allows us to place a digital face seamlessly on top of a live
- video. This process is ideal when wanting to replicate
a famous performer, ensuring that the facial model and animation perfectly represent the talent, yet the body, clothing and hair has the natural motion of a live video: perfect for holograms, such as Hit Parade, the longest face replacement hologram in history.

OUR FOUNDER
David Bennett has over 20 years of experience in the visual effects, performance capture, 3D gaming and virtual reality industries. He has played a major role in the development of facial animation, having managed the Facial Motion Capture team at Weta Digital. His credit's include: Avatar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Adventures of Tintin, Beowulf, Monster House and The Polar Express. He has also provided facial motion capture supervision for more than 50 actors, such as Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins and John Malkovich.
