Insight Gap Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital wanted the ability to understand their patients estimated length of stay at the time of admission to better plan and prepare for their stay as well as providing additional pastoral support to family/carers. Analytic Transformation Using the Qlik platform and the R integration, the Hospital was able to develop an algorithm that combined historical patient record data from their electronic health system with some information entered by the nurse on admission (on iPad) to predict the patients estimated length of stay. with an accuracy of 85% within 1-day. New Customer Intelligence Understanding the patients estimated length of stay has enabled a holistic view of the care continuum (i.e. the patient, parents/carers, other family members, continuing with education, etc) driving improvements in all aspects of the patient and family experience. Business Value Delivered The Qlik solution allows the Hospital to predict the patients estimated length of stay with an accuracy of 85% within 1-day with far exceeds other predictive models in use. This in turn has increased patient and family satisfaction and increased access to care through better facility and service resource planning.…Predictive Analytics with ‘R’ at Queensland Health

Business Process Combining activity data from more than 200 providers and assigning cost used to take many weeks and hundreds of man hours. The process heavily relied on manual input and created major delays in access to the data for clinicians and hospital managers. Process Transformation Using the Qlik platform, New South Wales Health completely re-imagined the process which now runs every day and processes more than 5 billion health records per year. Costing, clinical, activity unit and state prices are combined in a single analytical app for the first time ever. Analytic Insights Activity based funding data is now available to all employees in the state (130k) and has led to major findings and improvements in care. Clinicians have found and corrected variations in care, high risk patient groups have been identified and new clinical processes established. Business Value Delivered New South Wales Health have transformed into a truly data-driven health system, enabled by this re-imagined process and making the data available to all for improved decision making.
