UNDP Support to Suriname R-PP

• UNDP supported the government to mobilize

resources to further develop the R-PP and stakeholder engagement (Guyana Shield Facility, UNDP Suriname, UN-REDD)

• R-PP has been significantly improved in the last 6

months

• UNDP concurs with TAP assessment

Issues that have been raised

UNDP notes that stakeholder concerns have been raised, including the need to further:

– Ensure the R-PP reflects the government’s commitment to implementing the Saramaka judgment – Improve and clarify mechanisms for inclusive participation in the design of the R-PP (and eventual implementation of the associated project); including channels for identifying representatives – Strengthen existing or identify alternative mechanisms for addressing grievances in line with FCPF Guidelines

• n Grievance (independent, legitimate, transparent etc.)

Process going forward

• UNDP will support further discussion on how to address

remaining issues in Contact Group and through, e.g. Resolution Annex

• UNDP will support Suriname to:
• Revise R-PP in accordance with Resolution and

develop a project document through an inclusive process

• Meet UNDP and Common Approach standards

(including stakeholder engagement, SESA, FPIC, grievance)
