Why are we implementing the U-Pass? • In 2014/2015, the Algonquin Students’ Association sponsored a Universal Transit Pass Referendum which was passed and in March 2015 the U-Pass Agreement was formally signed with the City of Ottawa (OC Transpo), Algonquin College and Algonquin Students’ Association. • After the signing of the Contract the College was mandated with the implementation of the U-Pass for the 2015/2016 academic year.   3. What is the cost of the U-Pass? • The cost of the U-Pass is $192.70 per term for the 2015/2016 academic year. The U-Pass will typically be charged annually in a student’s first term in an academic year. • A U-Pass Administrative Fee of $4.18 will be charged once per academic year in a student’s first term in an academic year. • For the 2015/2016 academic year, the majority of students will be charged $385.40 in the first term in an academic year for the two terms (some exceptions apply). • Students starting a three term program will be charged $578.10 if beginning in the Fall term. Eligible Students • The U- Pass is a mandatory fee charged to all full-time Woodroffe students registered in the 2015/2016 academic year. • Students registered in a cooperative work program at Algonquin College. • Students registered with the Centre for Students with Disabilities with a part-time course load of 40% or more have the option to Opt-In to the U-Pass program.   5. Ineligible Students • Students who are registered as part-time or become part-time during the term. For students that drop to part-time the U-Pass is no longer valid and must be returned to the College. • Students who have officially withdrawn from their program during the term. The U-Pass is no longer valid and must be returned to the College. • Students who are registered in an Apprenticeship program. • Students who are registered as full-time in on-line programs.   6. Who can Opt-Out? Reside outside OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais • (STO) Service Areas. • Studying outside OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) Service Areas for more than 60 days in a term. • Holds a valid U-Pass issued from another post-secondary institution located within the City of Ottawa. • Registered with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. • Para Transpo registrant who resides in Rural Transit Area A. • Other (Formal documentation that specifies inability to use Public Transportation). Cases of medical exceptions/extenuating situations which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the College and OC Transpo. August 2015 6

Opt-Out Application Form and Procedures • Students must submit their online U-Pass Opt-Out Application Form: http://www.algonquincollege.com/ro/u-pass-opt-out/ with attached documentation. • Documentation can also be provided in person at the Registar’s Office to emailed to upass@algonquincollege.com. • Most importantly, the student must return the U-Pass to the Registrar’s Office (if it was picked-up) or no adjustment will be made to the student’s account. Opt-In • Students who are registered with the Centre for Students with Disabilities and are considered to be a full-time student on a reduced course load are eligible to Opt-In to the U-Pass program. • Students will need to send email request upass@algonquincollege.com. • U-Pass will be charged once eligibility is determined by the Fees Area. How to get a U-Pass • Card Services will be handling the physical issuance of U-Pass cards. • Students can send in a photo online at https://acphoto.algonquincollege.com – This site is accessible from both the Card Services website and the U-Pass website. Students can also visit Card Services in person to have their photo taken. From August 24 th – September 11 th , a U-Pass/AC Card Service Centre will be established at • the Marketplace Food Court in Salon A (D Building). On August 26 th and 27 th , this Service Centre will move to the Student Commons building. See here for details of pick-up locations and times. • “One photo, two cards!” This photo submission software allows students to submit one photo for both their U-Pass and AC Card (student ID card) • Students will be required to show one piece of government issued photo ID to pick up their U- Pass/AC Card.
