New PTA Goals for 2017-2018… More

  • Improve cafeteria contractor relationship and in doing so improve food at Tyler

○ Continue work done with Sodexo to improve the Tyler Cafeteria ○ Advocate for better food options on the regular menu

  • Engage DC Government to accelerate building renovation plans - the next stage of

modernization

○ Advocate for facility improvements including playground equipment (pushing for renewed city investment)

  • Crowdfund for new water fountains to improve access to water

○ Working out the final confirmation from DGS regarding their lack of upgrade plans to ensure that we need to go through the effort of fundraising additional $6-10k

  • Get more grants for Tyler - and raise more money to give more to the school
  • Your next great idea

○ Your ideas for making your child’s school better go here! ○ We realize that we will adapt over this school year

slide-11
SLIDE 11

Fundraising

  • A core principle of the Tyler PTA is “access for all.” we keep our fundraising events accessible, and

reasonably priced

  • We typically raise $40K per year (that’s a good year for Tyler fundraising)
  • Other schools in surrounding Capitol Hill typically raise $200K or more per year
  • With more funding PTAs are able to provide more improvements to a school:

○ Playground improvements ○ Kitchen improvements ○ Even additional staffing support for the school ○ Improved recess and aftercare monitoring

  • A goal of our large fundraising events is to raise money from people and businesses outside of Tyler

Parents

  • Without relying on several hundred dollars from each Tyler family, we bring money in from the larger

community to improve our school
