  3. The aims of this session ▪ To discuss the difficulties that we face as governors ▪ To observe common and specific difficulties ▪ To discuss how we can meet the Ofsted requirements ▪ To support and challenge each other to make a NY resolution

  5. Why me? ▪ Currently CoG of two Church academies in the same MAT ▪ One is Good and one is not yet good! ▪ History: Governor by mistake and C o G through ‘lack of concentration’ Years of failure…..amalgamation….SM in 2004….Good in 2007 and Outstanding in 2010

  6. Why you? Why did you become a governor? Make a difference Put something back Help the school Time on my hands Passionate about education Children at the school

  7. Why you? Why Ofsted wants you to be a governor To hold the SLT and school to account To monitor and evaluate the work of the school To challenge the leadership To support the leadership To have a positive impact Ultimately ………..to make a difference

Some areas to discuss A recent Somerset Governor Services survey showed the following as some Areas for Development ▪ Setting the strategic direction: Help shape the vision and strategic direction ▪ Understanding SEF and DATA and contributing to the SEF ▪ Providing strong leadership ▪ Reviewing governor performance ▪ The effectiveness of committees ▪ Having an impact and recording impact

Some areas to discuss How do we prove to Ofsted that : ▪ We are setting the strategic direction ▪ We are an integral part of the SEF and understand the Data ▪ Our committees really make a difference? ▪ We self review? ▪ We have an impact and record impact? ▪ We make the difference? ▪ We acknowledge and understand Data …….love it or hate it? ▪ We are managing our finances, doing more with less? ▪ We understand the Role of the Clerk ▪ We are demonstrating strong leadership?
