General Rules of Thumb:

If the pool is clear: add 1 lb per 10,000 gallons each week If the pool is cloudy: add 2 lbs per 10,000 gallons each week If the pool is green: add 3 lbs per 10,000 gallons each week

Water Balance 101 Total Dissolved Solids (Measure of ALL Items Dissolved in the Water) Typical Range:

1000 ppm or less

If the TDS reaches 1,500 ppm or higher, the water should be drained and re-filled. Calcium Hardness (Measure of Calcium Ions in Water) Typical Range:

150 ppm - 1,000 ppm

Ideal Range:

200 ppm - 400 ppm

At 150 ppm or lower: the water will seek calcium and will pull it from the plaster wall, which causes pitting. At 1,000 ppm or higher: the water will be difficult to balance. The increased calcium in the water will cause the TDS to be too high.
