About the Policy

 2001: INTT is the .TN regulation authority:

in charge of formal adjustments of naming charter, as well as Dispute resolution.

 Need to be in T

unisia to reserve a domain name (some people in T ennessee wanted .TN)

 Except for International Trademarks  Generic sub-domains are not allowed

(textile.com.tn , ngo.org.tn …)

 A request for a name may need a proof for

eligibility

T echnical aspects

 BIND, MySQL/PHP, Linux, perl, snmp, mrtg  The primary nameserver “NS.ATI.TN” is IPv6

Ready, and declared in the IANA root servers.

 DNSsec was tested since 2003, using

privately generated keys, (Exchange of name Zones between the primary DNS with its secondaries for some test Zones).

 Several IDN aware solutions have been tested

(at the local DNS level + testing of browsers with specific Plug-In’s)

Initiatives to Boost the .TN

 No more registration fees, only a yearly

subscription fees (42 Dinars /year ~ 28$)

 Free of charge for embassies, International

  • rganizations in T

unisia, and associations

 ISP is no longer liable for content (users

tend to get generic names and host them elsewhere)

 However: Users still prefer a GTLD:

Cheaper, no paper work needed, they get it online

Ongoing Projects

 World Bank funded project:

 NIC supporting IDN (Arabic domain names),

Including the tools for implementing the Workflow between Registry and its registrars.

 Implementing a system to automate

the checking of the “trade Registers” database (hosted at the ministry of trade)

 this will allow the Online sale of domain

names

 ENUM System is under consideration at

the technical level (“6.1.2.E164.arpa” has not yet been requested by the T elecom Regulator)

 Defining a specific naming charter for

the government agencies

 Revising the telecom law for a better

domain names legal frame

 Revising the fees for .TN
