Adverbs Adverbs also describe adjectives. Words like 'very', 'quite', 'extremely' and 'nearly' are also adverbs. They can be used with an adjective to show how much the adjective is working on the noun. We call these 'adverbs of degree'. Fido's hat is quite big. Fido's hat is really big.
