TEAMS

• A “Team” consists of the School Counselor and

the following teachers:

• English
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies
• Special Education
• Teams share/disseminate information, plan

curriculum, and facilitate parent team conferences.

ROLE OF COUNSELOR

• Advise students/parents on academic planning
• Facilitate parent-team conferences
• Counselor is member of each 6th grade team
• Provide direct counseling services to individuals

and groups

• Provide classroom guidance lessons on topics such

as career exploration, goal setting, and conflict resolution.

MEETING WITH THE COUNSELOR

• Before school
• During lunch
• After school

Lunch Groups:

• All students are invited, beginning in the fall, to participate

in lunch groups.

• Each group meets during lunch periods once a

week for a 6-8 week period.

• Groups include: book club, study skills, current connections,

scrapbooking.

ACTIVITIES

• Extra Help: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday

from 2:19 p.m. to 2:54 p.m.

• Clubs and Intramurals: Begin after Extra Help

TRANSITION PROGRAMS INCLUDE

• Curriculum night for parents
• Orientation programs for students
• Articulation meetings between elementary and middle

school

• 6th grade counselor sits on CSE/504 meetings at the

elementary level

• Summer orientation for all incoming 6th graders at the end
• f August (students receive lockers)
• Classroom guidance activities throughout the year

SIXTH GRADE CHOICES

Middle School should be an enjoyable time for your child. To ensure you make the best class selections, take some time to discuss the following choices with your child:

• French, Italian, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese

(Must choose 1)

• Band, Chorus, Orchestra, or Musicology

(Must choose 1)

• Lunch Chorus (Band or Orchestra students)
