  3. Identity: Combination of the distinctive characteristics belonging to any given individual, or shared by all members of a particular social category or group. Identity is perceptible only through a relation to an other, declaring the boundary where the self diverges from and merges with the other. Gender: A series of performance acts, statements, appearances constantly in flux, coded within western culture, that are assumed to be natural and necessary. It dictates to a significant degree how one views oneself both as a person and in relation to other people, ideas and nature.

  4. I’m interested in understanding the limits between me and my drag character, Xica. I want to investigate the relation between my self and this other . I want to translate the tension between those two personas into a physical entity, a totem .

  15. • How to translate the tension between characters into a physical entity? Can it be done in a di ff erent way other than with the use of props, costumes, wigs, makeup, etc? How to find a physical embodiment to a fluid and mutable thing such as identity? Can a single object create and represent this relationship? How to build a relation of identity projection from subject to object and object to subject?
 • How does my relation with drag is similar and how is it di ff erent from other drag artists? How is that similar to self identity in a broader sense?
 • How contemporary visual culture represents the female and how does that relate to the art of drag? How does female representation di ff er from male representation in contemporary western culture? Until what point does gender performance constitutes parody and pastiche?

  16. • Series of exercises of investigation • Who is Xica? What parts constitute her? • Setting up encounters • Document investigation through other Drag artists
