Current PADOT Policy • PADOT allows up to 5% of the mix to be from Manufacturer Waste Asphalt Shingles on roads with less than 5000 ADT. • PADOT does not allow Post-consumer Shingles to be used in asphalt pavements. www.dot.state.pa.us
Reasons for Current Policy • 2009 research project concluded that while manufactured waste shingles performed adequately post-consumer shingle section started to deteriorate within 1.5 years. – Loss of fines – Asphalt mixing was a concern – Deleterious materials www.dot.state.pa.us
