Department of Medicine, Division of Heme/Onc A Brief History • In 2007 – Dr. Carlos, director of the program, left UPMC – 60+ patients at the UPMC program • In 2008 – Dr. Gladwin joined UPMC – First physician assistant hired • In 2010 – The Pittsburgh Sickle Cell Society asked us to care for their patients • In 2012 – First adult patient with SCD cured by stem cell transplantation at Childrens Hospital (Dr. Krishnamurti’s team) June 19, 2018
Department of Medicine, Division of Heme/Onc • In 2013 – Dr. Kato, De Castro, Jonassaint and Ofori-Acquah (PhD) joined UPMC • In 2014 – Ms. Dominique Stevens-Young became program manager • In 2016 – Efforts to consolidate the UPMC program in a dedicated facility started • In 2017 – Dr. Soodalter joined to provide palliative care/pain medicine support – Sue Sylvester replaced Evie Wrzosek as clinic RN – Dr. Valpey joined to provide psychiatric support June 19, 2018
