SLIDE 8
  • What heroic journeys

have you already undertaken?

slide-9
SLIDE 9

You have already followed the Hero Path

  • Think back to goals you have achieved in the past, or challenges you

have overcome – consider the following questions:

  • Were you initially reluctant to take action, what form did the reluctance take?
  • When did you commit to the change?
  • What resources did you uncover or develop along the journey?
  • What tests and challenges did you overcome along the way?
  • What did you gain as a result of achieving your outcome?
  • What did you learn along the way?
slide-10
SLIDE 10
  • Now let’s look at

each step in the journey

  • As we do so, apply it

to a goal or challenge that you are currently contemplating

slide-11
SLIDE 11
  • The familiar place from which

the journey begins.

  • a sense that things need to change
  • a sense of dissatisfaction
  • a sense of wanting more, or

something different

  • Wheel of life
slide-12
SLIDE 12
  • The first point where the hero is given

an indication that things must change

  • A challenge or quest that must be

undertaken is presented

  • Goal setting
slide-13
SLIDE 13
  • Reluctance to take on the calling

because of fears or insecurities that have surfaced.

  • Develop motivation – the

consequences of acting/not acting

  • Practise doing something

different

  • Identify limiting beliefs and

develop empowering beliefs

slide-14

  • Acquisition of resources - confidence,

insight, advice, training or magical gifts

  • Helps him overcome fears

– takes him to the threshold of adventure

slide-15
SLIDE 15
  • Crossing the threshold
  • Symbolises commitment to the journey

– stepping from the known into the unknown

“You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." The Matrix

  • Tests, allies and enemies
  • The hero’s resolve is tested with a series of

trials, tasks or ordeals.

  • The hero is assisted by the advice, amulets

and allies of the mentor

  • Preparation for the rest of the journey
slide-17
SLIDE 17
  • Innermost Cave
  • The place where the hero must face the final ordeal
  • The Ordeal
  • The hero must face his greatest fear, confront his

biggest challenge

  • The hero will teeter on the brink of failure
  • Only by confronting failure can the hero be reborn

and be granted the greater power or insight to see the journey through Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging – Joseph Campbell

slide-18
SLIDE 18
  • Having overcome his greatest

fear, the hero is rewarded – the reward comes in many forms (magical sword, an elixir, true love or greater knowledge and insight)

slide-19
SLIDE 19
  • The hero must complete the journey

and return to the ordinary world.

  • Here the learnings of the journey can

be integrated and shared

The Threshold

  • The point at which the “decision” is

made to step from the known to the unknown

  • 2 common reasons for not crossing

the threshold…

  • First - Believing you have to take a

giant leap

“The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure” – Joseph Campbell

The Threshold

step from the known to the unknown

  • 2 common reasons for not crossing the

threshold…

  • First - Believing you have to take a giant leap

Simple questions…

  • What are the negative consequences of doing nothing?
  • What are the rewards (positive consequences) of taking action?
  • What is the single smallest step you could take right now?
  • Who could help you with the next phase of the journey?
  • What else do you need to acquire (behaviours, skills, beliefs etc)?
  • WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE THAT STEP?
