Getting to Know Farm Credit

  • Farm Credit supports rural communities and agriculture with reliable,

consistent credit, today and tomorrow

  • Network of 74 local lenders providing financial services to farmers,

ranchers, and rural businesses across the country

  • We support agriculture as we find it – large and small, organic and

conventional, in rural and urban communities

  • We also support rural communities by financing the companies that bring

clean water to rural families, reliable energy to farms and rural towns, and modern, high-speed telecommunications services critical to connecting rural areas with the rest of the world

What Makes Farm Credit Different?

slide-6
SLIDE 6
  • Owned and operated by the very same farmers, ranchers and rural

customers it serves

  • Unique structure keeps the Farm Credit System involved in the industries

we finance and the local communities we support

  • Result: specialized lending and services with a dedication to agriculture

and rural America

  • Celebrating a century of fulfilling our mission!

What Makes Farm Credit Different?

slide-7
SLIDE 7
  • Farm Credit is also focused on helping young, beginning, and small

producers be successful

  • “Young”: 35 years of age or younger
  • “Beginning”: Less than 10 years of agricultural experience
  • “Small”: Farm production of less than $250,000 annually
  • Many of our local Farm Credit associations have specific programs to help

foster the next generation of farmers and ranchers

Think beyond traditional grants and sponsorships

  • Shared mission: to support farmers and rural economies
  • How can we achieve our mutual goals?

Farm Credit as An on-the-ground resource

  • For understanding area farmers and their marketing channels
  • For building relationships with schools (FFA), university extension (4-H) and other local

agriculture stakeholders

Getting to know farm credit

Farm to School

A Missouri Farmers Perspective

slide-25
SLIDE 25

To make this movement successful we must understand the many factors of food production

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Real Farmers, Growing Real Food

slide-27
SLIDE 27

So Many Opportunities!

  • Schools can “pick their

food”.

  • Field Trips
  • A great way to sell produce

that you wouldn’t have a market for.

  • Expanding partnerships,

creating business

  • pportunities.
slide-28
SLIDE 28

It’s ALL Sunshine….and unicorns… or not…

  • Difficult for farmers to have constant
  • communication. Producers are farmers,

marketers, book keepers, HR departments, food safety specialists and everything in between.

  • Finding a middle ground of pricing. Schools

are used to working with commodity dollars.

  • Schools want a reliable consistent supply of
  • product. Mother Nature doesn’t always allow

for that.

  • Local is cool but for how long?
  • Farming is a business. Not a uptopia.
