OPEN ADMISSION AND LIMITED ADMISSION WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

  • Open admission animal shelters take all animals regardless of

health, age, temperament or space. These organizations are usually county facilities or organizations with contracts to perform county services.

  • Limited admission animal shelters limit animal intake by only

accepting adoptable animals. Age, health, temperament and space is all considered when accepting an animal in need. These shelters often market themselves as “Adoption Centers” or “ No Kill Shelters”.
