HISTORY OF ROOF TILES

  • From the time of the earliest cave dweller, enough to eat and protection

from the elements has been the sum total of man’s basic needs. In the history of human progress through the ages, and of latter provision of a roof over his head remains his principal preoccupation…………….

  • Shelter is one of the basic necessities of life. Man has strived to evolve

better roofing solutions that will withstand the test of time.

slide-16
SLIDE 16

HISTORY OF ROOF TILES

His ingenuity was put to greatest test when he moved away from the cave and then from Palm Leaf or Grass Hut, Log Cabin, mud brick adobe to today’s sophisticated building techniques – his problems were

  • ---------------to keep out the rain
  • ---------------fire proof and strong roof

  • Concrete tiles consist of :

Sand (~70%) Cementitious component (~20%) Water (~9% ) Pigment (~1%)

  • ther minor additives.
  • The main constituents are pre-processed before they enter

the factory and are therefore significantly higher in cost than clay raw materials.

  • Strength is developed by a chemical reaction between

the cement component and water. Strength continues to increase for several years.

What is a concrete tile?

The main manufac ufacturi turing methods for conc ncre rete tiles in are

  • Extrus

Normally tiles are produced using Pressing Technology or Extrusion.

  • Extrusion is a simple technique by

which, the wet mix of sand and cement is extruded through an orifice in the shape of the tile and the under side is formed by the pallets.

  • The roller and slipper gives the shape
  • f top surface. The Tiles produced with

this technology can not have any projection on the top surface like clay tiles.

What is the life of Slurry Coating.

The Slurry coating will be eroded in the range of 10-15 microns per annum. In such case our tiles with a coating thickness of 500-750 microns can last almost 35 to 40 years. What is the Life of Efflorescence Preventive Coating? The gloss of clear coat can be lost due to UV in Sunlight and due to dust sticking to the surface of the coating. The Maximum life of this coating is 5 Years in Indian Tropical climate. What is the Life of Roof Tile? The Tiles will give sound performance for more than 75 years and probably a lot longer.
