FALL FOCUS � National youth sports surveys show the quality of coaching is important ▪ Biggest factor influencing the experience a child has ▪ Determines if a child continues to participate � LYSA coaches have high approval from parents – continue to build on that � Coach with passion, teach with patience, practice with intention, train with intensity � Games – more instruction and eliminate yelling � Build relations with players and parents � Thoughtful and professional relationship with referees Your attitude is infectious whether it’s positive and enthusiastic or critical and negative

POLICY ITEMS � Concussion ▪ Certification of training required ▪ Any player who exhibits signs of a concussion, MUST leave the field & may not re-enter � “Times Two Policy” ▪ 2 or more adults must be present at any team function (games, practices, parties, etc) ▪ Failure to abide by this policy negates liability coverage � Fields ▪ No dogs ▪ Pick up garbage ▪ Don’t damage during bad weather

  10. POLICY ITEMS � Medical Release Information ▪ Included with email you received ▪ Must have this with you at all team activities ▪ Destroy it when season is over � � Note – allergies – included in the roster information – double check with parents

ROSTER & LATE ADDITIONS � Sign 2 copies and return 1 today! � � Keep a copy of the roster on hand for games � � Notify registrar promptly of any roster changes (drops/ AC changes) � � Late Registrations ▪ Kids on wait list that might be placed on your team � � Problems: Brandi Aliaga (lysabrandialiaga@gmail.com)

PRACTICES � Practices are in 1-hour time blocks � Times and Days ▪ Melanie Jones (mela4994@yahoo.com) is in charge ▪ Issues – email Melanie ▪ Do not use unassigned fields without approval ▪ If want to switch with another coach, let Melanie know � Be respectful of other coaches/teams on fields � Only practice on assigned fields ▪ Liability insurance does not cover other fields

PRACTICES Weather Related Cancellations � Miami Township (Riverview & Paxton Ramsey Parks) ▪ Field closings – call hot line 248-5513 � � Symmes Township (HOB & Stonebridge Parks) ▪ Check website for field status under parks symmestownship.org � � Cancellation – in general ▪ If fields are very wet; standing water; risk of injury - leave decision up to coach, use good judgment ▪ Protect fields, especially early in season ▪ Goal areas very vulnerable – if wet don’t practice there � � Cancel if Thunder/Lightning

  16. PRACTICES Scrimmage Opportunities � Opportunity to schedule scrimmages before season begins on August 13, 20 and Labor Day Weekend � � Details to follow ▪ Available fields and times will be listed ▪ Self scheduling process

SEVERE WEATHER � Safety is First Priority � � Lightning Detection System ▪ Riverview & Phillips Park ▪ If lightning detected nearby --- 1 long, loud blast. ▪ Clear the field immediately & go to a safe location (not under trees or standing in the parking lot). ▪ The system will sound only once – does not keep going off ▪ All clear (30 minutes) - the system will send off 3 long, loud blasts similar to the first one. At that time, people are allowed back onto the fields. � � Guidelines if there is no system at your park (don’t assume it is working) ▪ Leave the field immediately at the first sighting of thunder or lightning ▪ No one may be on the field until 30 minutes after the last time lightning was seen OR thunder was heard.

  19. GAME INFORMATION � � Game schedules distributed in the next few weeks ▪ 1 st Game: Saturday, August 27 ▪ Last game: Saturday, October 22 ▪ 10-game season; Saturday games plus several weeknight games � � Do not call/email requesting times, etc. We can not schedule around other activities

GAME INFORMATION Score Cards � Mike Sauer - Scorekeeper � Home Team to provide score card ▪ FILL IT OUT COMPLETELY AHEAD OF TIME! � Both coaches must sign at the end of the game – signature indicated agreement to score and outcome � Check score and make sure it is correct � Protests ▪ Can not protest judgment calls ▪ Must be accompanied by $50 ▪ Framework provided in coaches manual on the website (Forms Tab) � Traveling teams ▪ Some districts do not use scorecard so you must get agreement from coach and ref to outcome before leaving the field ▪ Check website to verify

GAME INFORMATION Referees FEES � Referee payment money mailed to you � Non-descript Chase Bank Envelope � Home team pays both refs ( amounts are per ref ) – get exact bills ▪ Instructional: $10 ▪ Passers: $12 ▪ Wings: $17 ▪ Strikers /Kickers: $20 ▪ Minors /Seniors: $30 � RESPECT � Proper behavior – ABSOLUTELY no arguing with referees ▪ Please reference LYSA Code of Conduct ▪ Remind parents � Disagreements or issues –email Derek, Mike, or Bruce

GAME INFORMATION Cancellation � Reasons ▪ Thunder/Lightening ▪ Heavy rain – poor field conditions � � Who ▪ LYSA – before games ▪ Referees – in charge once teams arrive at the field � � Coaches can not cancel games. � � Cancellation updates will be available on the website by 7:30 AM weekends and 4:30 PM weekdays � � Coaches for early games (9 AM) will receive a phone call from the league. All other coaches should consult the website.

  23. GAME INFORMATION Rescheduling � � See memo for rescheduling procedures (READ IT!!) � � Very specific process for reschedules that must be followed � � If process not followed = forfeit
