- At the opening of the preliminary session of APRICOT‐ APAN
- n 21st February, 2011 at Hong Kong, Mr. Vint Cerf made the
following observations: "But I think that it would not hurt for the legal community and the engineering community to sit down together maybe this is the engineering community to sit down together, maybe this is something that APAN and APRICOT could attempt to foster, to talk about the technology of the internet and worldwide web gy f and how one could adapt the kinds of rules for intellectual property that serve the old environment, how to adapt that to this new world."

- This is the time for the legal community and engineering community to sit
together to talk about the technology of the Internet and World Wide Web and how the rules of intellectual property in the old environment can be adapted to the new world. In this context, the present Birds of Feather meeting was called.
- There was a consensus amongst the participants of the BOF that given the
fact that today, majority of the countries are still relying upon their i i i ll l i i h i i i d l existing intellectual property regimes in their respective countries to deal with the intellectual property environment and their regulations, the present time is the time for re‐look on the rules of the intellectual property rights and legal regimes to the extent that they adapt to the new world in the second decade of 22nd century.

- The BOF further agreed that there a need to identify the challenges to the
current intellectual property rights and legal regime in different parts of the world and challenges being raised to it by the new world of the technology and the World Wide Web.
- The BOF further agreed that there is a need to identity and provide for

various mechanisms, procedures and processes by means of which the existing rules for intellectual property and legal regimes could be adapted h i to the new environment.

- The BOF by a consensus resolved that there is a need for
establishing a APAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights Legal and Policy It was further resolved that the APAN Rights, Legal and Policy. It was further resolved that the APAN Board be requested to establish the APAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights, Legal and Policy Issues. The BOF p y g , g y recommended that the APAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights, Legal and Policy Issues be chaired by Mr. l d b l Pavan Duggal, President, Cyberlaw Asia.
- The BOF further resolved and agreed upon the charter for the
APAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights, Legal and Policy Issues and Policy Issues.
- The BOF further resolved that the APAN Working Group on
Intellectual Property Rights Legal and Policy Issues is Intellectual Property Rights, Legal and Policy Issues is recommended to be formed at the APRICOT APAN Conference at Hong Kong on 24February, 2011 as under the aegis of APAN.
