Origin

  • What type of source is it and who wrote it?
  • When was it written?
  • Is it complete?

  • What is happening elsewhere at the time?

What is Propaganda?

  • Misleading information used to promote a

particular point of view

  • It is used to influence the opinion or decision of a

group of people with regards to a particular subject, object, cause or issue

What is Biased and/or perspective? “Being biased means having an unbalanced or

  • ne-sided opinion” (Textbook, p.447)

Ask yourself whose point of view is the source espousing?

  • Militarism
  • Nationalism

Definitions are provided in your textbook and Nationalism and Imperialism are the most important two for Australia

  • Propaganda (racial hatred)

  • Conscription = compulsory military service
  • Referendum = national vote
  • Plebiscite = public opinion poll (not legally binding)
  • First plebiscite October 1916 defeated
  • Second plebiscite 1917 defeated
  • Propaganda campaign vote yes and vote no
