Purpose of the University Experience

  • Better understand the world
  • Learn to accomplish complicated tasks
  • Develop the ability to function as self-sufficient adults
  • Create lifelong learners

(Note: The purpose of TEAM is to provide more students the

  • pportunity for a four-year Texas A&M University experience.)
slide-13
SLIDE 13

Our Goals for TEAM Students

  • Facilitate students’ full admission at A&M
  • Help students “prepare to declare” their majors
  • Maximize students’ career options through careful course

selection

  • Allow students to graduate without excessive credit hours
  • Excessive hours can lead to extra semesters and expenses
slide-15
SLIDE 15

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

Goal: Full Admission

3 Methods:

  • 1. Transfer
  • 2. Complete TEAM
  • 45 Blinn hrs/3.0 GPA
  • 15 A&M hrs/3.0 GPA
  • 3. Readmission
slide-16
SLIDE 16

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

  • Research intended major, determine prerequisite courses
  • DO NOT postpone Math & Science
  • Transfer after only 2 semesters is possible for some majors
  • not Business, Engineering, Biomedical Science, and others
  • Historically, 1/4 of TEAM freshmen transferred after 2 semesters
  • Plan to attend Blinn summer school next year to become

more competitive

  • After starting in TEAM, only Blinn and A&M courses will satisfy

TEAM admission requirements (no hometown summer school)

  • Meet regularly with an A&M Advisor

Plan “A” Full Admission by Transfer

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

Plan “B” Full Admission by Completing TEAM

  • Stay “on track” with grades and credit hours at each school
  • Plan to attend Blinn summer school next year
  • After starting in TEAM, only Blinn and A&M courses will satisfy

TEAM admission requirements (no hometown summer school)

  • For timely graduation you need to average 15 credit hours

per semester

  • This often equates to taking five courses per semester.
  • Meet regularly with an A&M advisor
  • It’s possible to complete TEAM early
slide-18
SLIDE 18

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

  • Major defined: A subject or field of study chosen by a

student to represent his or her principal interest, and upon which a large share of the student’s efforts are concentrated

  • Your A&M major while participating in TEAM is “TEAM”
  • You will not declare a specific, degree-granting major until you are

fully admitted at A&M, but you should be narrowing your choices and eventually follow the curriculum for your desired future major

  • At Blinn you may be asked to declare a Blinn major in the

event you decide to pursue an Associate Degree

  • Blinn doesn’t have the same majors as A&M—choose something

related to your desired major at A&M

What is my Major?

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

There are 150+ majors at A&M

  • 65-85% of all college

students change their majors during their academic careers!

  • Academic Advisors

are available to assist

slide-20
SLIDE 20

Transition Academic Programs 979-845-5916 tap.tamu.edu, blinnteam.tamu.edu

Access to Majors

  • It is possible for TEAM students to graduate from any

A&M college and department, but some are more challenging to enter than others… Plan ahead.

Q-Drop

  • State of Texas: Cumulative 6 drops allowed at all Texas colleges
  • Only 4 of your drops may be at A&M
  • 1-hour classes do not count toward the 4 A&M drops, but

do count toward the State limit of 6 total drops

  • Deadline = 60th class day at A&M / 12th week at Blinn
  • Q-Drops do not begin until after the 12th class day at A&M
  • Drops during the first week are schedule adjustments
  • Dropping your only A&M course is actually a withdrawal from

the university!

  • Consider adding a second course (1 or 2 hours) as a safeguard
