It is intended that the TCC be a dynamic, innovative, multi-purpose, and non-denominational facility incorporating spaces and service to help address the current and growing needs of the Tamil community. Generally, spaces are needed for but not limited to; meeting, multi-faith, recreation, events and social

  • services. The specific functional space requirements are to be determined and refined through a

comprehensive, inclusive and accessible community consultation model.

The TCC is to be developed with acknowledgement that it will be constructed on the traditional territory of many indigenous nations, including the Haudenosaunee, the Wendat, Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Metis, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This territory is also covered by the Upper Canada Treaties: Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties. Today, the meeting place of Toronto (from the Haudenosaunee word Tkaronto) is still the home to many indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work in this territory.
