PRESENTATIONS ARE THE MODERN WAY OF COMMUNICATING

With an effective presentation, you can capture the imagination of your audience and move

them to action, all whilst allowing information and ideas to be passed quickly and to large numbers of people.

There is a raft of presentation skills training available, from those focusing on your personal impact, your body language & how you use slides (if you use slides at all!). The training programmes I provide can cover a multitude of different approaches and methods, but are generally categorized into four areas…

  • 1. What you need to think about before you start
  • a. Most people jump right in and open PowerPoint... don't be like most people!
  • 2. How planning what you will present and how you will present it will set you up for success
  • a. Mastering the boring stuff first; from how to rehearse, rehearse, rehearse to planning

your delivery and media

  • 3. Looking like a pro when in the moment
  • a. Everything from framing your presentation into a story, the power of metaphors, your

body language, reading the room and disarming your audience

  • 4. What you must not forget
  • a. The simple things we all do wrong, learning from the best TED talkers in town, presenting

to senior managers

BEFORE YOU START

Stop, catch yourself & breathe. Resist the temptation to open PowerPoint! There is lots of thinking to do before you begin & my training programmes will give you the chance and method to do it well, and make it become a habit for the future.

PLANNING

Now you have given some deeper thought to what you are actually trying to achieve with the presentation and why, for instance, it’s you that is the one giving the presentation, you can start to plan how you are going to do it.

Get to know who will be in your audience and why Tailor your message to your audience Plan the media you will use (don't limit just to PowerPoint!) Remember the golden rules of slides if you do use PowerPoint Giving you a visual bible Pre-presentation rituals - depending

CRAFTING THE MESSAGE AND DELIVERING IT

If you have nailed your objective and fully understand your purpose, the best way to present is by telling a story. Humans are wired to listen to stories as they engage us in a narrative, it’s the reason we read books, watch TV and go to the Cinema. Here we will learn how to construct the perfect story, taking examples from well known movies (kids movies are great at this!) for instance, in how we tell a compelling, concise and powerful story, weaving in a hard hitting metaphor to make your point memorable. Remember:

Villian (what should the audience dislike) Victim (something relatable to the audience or the audience themselves) Hero (that's usually you or your product / service!)
