UN World Food Program

  • WFP is the United Nations front line agency

in the fight against hunger, WFP is continually responding to emergencies. We save lives by getting food to the hungry fast.

  • WFP also works to help prevent hunger in the

future through programmes that use food as a means to build assets, spread knowledge and nurture stronger, more dynamic communities.

  • WFP has developed expertise in a range of

areas including Food Security Analysis, Nutrition, Food Procurement and Logistics.

  • In 2008 WFP operations reached just over

102 million people with food assistance in 78 countries and distributed 3,9 million tons of food

  • Funding is obtained through voluntary

contributions from Governments and other donors

Challenges

  • Difficult Areas of Operation
  • High fuel price and fixed-cost for air

service

  • Aging aircraft (IL-76) (An-12) (L100-30)

― High maintenance cost ― High fuel burn ― Difficulty to source fuel ― Difficult to replace the aircraft

  • Short-term funding contribution

Airdropping is costly, however it is essential to provide the service in order to distribute food and medical supplies for emergency to beneficiaries in right time of needs.

What are the sustainable ways ?

  • Airship for emergency relief

would be a good solution for WFP to provide air service in sustainable and environment-friendly ways.

  • It would help to reduce the
  • perating cost for heavy

loads.

  • Different payload

capacities: 20– 50 MT / 100 MT / 200 MT would cover most requirements.
