BASIC SKILLS: Addition, Subtraction & Multiplication, Whole numbers &/or Integers Demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of integers, concretely, pictorially and symbolically. Demonstrate an understanding of multiplication and division of integers, concretely, pictorially and symbolically.

Step 1: Choose 2 numbers: 1 – 8 Step 2: Choose 2 numbers: 8 – 15 Step 3: Use some or all of these numbers and the operations ×, ÷, + − to calculate as many numbers as possible. Guidelines: You don’t have to use all numbers. Use whatever operations you need to. How high can you count?

• 1. Play games
• 2. Model and promote a Growth Mindset
• 3. Never associate being good at math with speed.
• 4. Never share with your children the idea that you were bad at math at school

• 5. Encourage number sense – having an idea of the size of numbers and being

able to separate and combine numbers flexibly.

• 6. Always be encouraging and never tell kids they are wrong when they are

working on math problems. Instead try and understand their logic and work through it with them.
