Shared Curriculum Service

  • Benefits:
  • “An analysis of international studies shows implementing

and monitoring an aligned curriculum resulted in a measurable impact (31 percentile points) in student achievement.”

  • “Several studies show that alignment "cancels out" more

traditional predictors of student achievement such as socioeconomic status, gender, race and teacher effect.”*

  • Cost savings to the community

Shared Curriculum Service

S Goals: S Secure academic success through curricular alignment from

grades K through 12 and beyond

S Reduce instructional gaps through curricular alignment from

grades K through 12

S Provide our students with a smooth transition into the

Kingsway Regional School District at grade 7

Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Why Common Core?

  • Set grade level expectations
  • Define what all students are expected to

know and be able to do by the end of a grade-level

  • Focus on the “essentials”
  • Establish a baseline for advanced learners

CCSS Math: 3 Major Shifts

1.Focus strongly where the standards focus. 2.Coherence: Think across grades, and link to major topics. 3.Rigor: In major topics, pursue conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application.

S Office of Assessments has been working on

transitioning the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK) for the past 3years

S The NJASK assessments are called "transitional"

because we will not be able to measure the full range

  • f the CCSS until the next generation assessments are

developed and administered (PARCC).

  • Will replace NJ ASK in grades 3–8; and HSPA 11
  • Comprised of 2 sections:
  • 1. Performance-Based Assessment (PBA):

administered as close to the end of the school year as possible (approx. 75%); 5 sessions

  • 2. End-of-Year Assessment (EOY): administered

after approx. 90% of the school year (ELA/Literacy & math); 4 sessions

New in 2015 PARCC

slide-32
SLIDE 32

PARCC Purpose

  • Assess the full range of the CCSS
  • Measure the full range of student performance,

including the performance of high and low performing students

  • Provide data during the academic year to inform

instruction, interventions and professional development

  • Provide data for accountability, including measures of

growth

Teamwork!

  • It's important to communicate regularly with your

child's teachers from kindergarten through high school.

  • It’s a team effort! Having a good, working relationship

with the people who teach your child helps ensure that education is a team effort between home and school. Parents can…

  • Email/phone conversations/written notes.
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences:
