  8. Poultry activity and business are also concerned by the following Dermanyssus gallinae correlated aspects: - Decrease of eggs production (table eggs and hatching eggs) - Mortality of embryos (Layer and Broiler chicks production) - Poor egg quality (shell aspect and strenght) - Overall mortality increase - Negative effects on health of: - Rearing Pullets - Breeders, laying hens and broilers - Farm workers

  9. Due to the entity of the Italian global layers’ capital (over 42Ml. birds) and the domestic large average farms’ size, our farmers and the national association (Assoavi) are deeply concerned about red mite impact on the whole egg chain at technical and economical level. So, further investigations, studies and innovative products are welcome. Growing concerns linked to the use of conventional chemical treatments, are increasing interest in alternative methods to control DG in poultry farms. Among them, feed integration with vegetable extracts and /or minerals as: - extracts of Withania somnifera and Ocimum sanctum ; - extracts of Mangifera indica, Mucuna pruriens and Boerhavia diffusa ; - extract of Allium sativum ; - organic silica.
