Planning

1. Obtain cable records prior to developing plans
2. Try and plan any building or excavation away from the

electrical network

3. Where properties are to be demolished contact Guernsey

Electricity and arrange to have the services Cut Off. This is not the same as a request for a Meter Disconnection.

4. Cable locations should be verified on site by using a cable

locating device (CAT) and by hand digging trial holes

1. Dig additional trial holes by hand to prove the exact location,

route and depth of all cables

2. Mark the cable route on the ground
3. Carefully expose the cable, digging by hand
4. Do not use a mechanical digger or power tools

within 50cm of any cable

Cable record should only be used as a guide and verified on site.

by a competent person using a suitable Cable Tracing device (CAT) cables must be marked out on ground prior to any excavation work.

Pre1990 Sketches were drawn on to paper service cards 1990-2006 service cards and site sketches we gradually copied across to the paper copies of our electronic map and then added to the system. Since 2005 records have been updated directly from the site sketch onto the GIS. This now allows us to update daily.
