A framework for the delegation of clinical tasks to PAs

‘Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), as the responsible bodies for planning and commissioning health care services in their local area, put in place a clinical governance framework for delegation to PAs. This means that there should be a clearly identified local process for making decisions about what can and cannot be delegated to a PA. The process should include how training and assessment of competence will be provided; how any on-going support and review of competence will be provided and how on going clinical review of the client’s needs is maintained and by who.’ 9

10 10 Identify the health care tasks required What skills are required to support this? Who will help write the care plan? Recruitment You now know what type

you find them? You have found your PA How do you train them? Your PA is now trained How do you supervise them on clinical tasks ?

“I’ve found having a personal health budget has had a major impact

  • n my life, its given me a lot more choice and independence in

what carers I choose, what they are trained in and how they assist

  • me. Without this it would be a lot more difficult to live out of my

family home and live independently with my partner. Also to set up my own business and move ahead with my life.” Matt, personal health budget holder
