MY AIM..

To simplify and clarify the sources of acceptable evidence used to support ACE Apprenticeship Certifications whilst utilising new technologies and systems that are available within the network. Over several months the Federation have been in consultation with many organisations involved in the production of evidence that supports apprenticeships in England. As you are aware data has been held in silo by many organisations i.e. Awarding Bodies and Skills Funding Agency. The aim of the on-going work is to try and link these sources to the benefit of the end user, the candidate.

PERSONAL LEARNING RECORD

  • Owned by The Learning Record Service (part of the SFA)
  • 146 Awarding Bodies have signed up to populate the PLR
  • Using the ULN candidates will have complete history from the age of 5

through to retirement

  • Has been hit & miss in the past with no compulsory fields for completion.

1st September 2013 that changed and should see the quality improve

  • FISSS to populate the PLR with Apprentice completion data
  • The PLR evidence should always be considered as alternative piece of

evidence in place of accepted evidence, such as certificates, and may not be the best option for all learners.

Awarding Body Screenshots

  • In August 2013 the Skills Funding Agency forced awarding bodies to

populate the PLR with the threat of the removal of Public Funding

  • After this there was no logical reason why we shouldn’t accept the

screenshots from these organisations. As long as the Awarding Body has signed up to populate the PLR then we will accept their screenshots.

  • The only caveat being that all of the required detail must be shown, if

it’s not clear then additional evidence will be required.

Schools Information Management System

SIMS is directly populated by the awarding bodies and can

  • nly be accessed by a limited number of users within

individual schools. If you want to use evidence from SIMS the following information will need to be clearly displayed:

  • Result date
  • Qualification
  • Board
  • Status i.e. certificate or unit
  • Grade/Result

This will then need to be signed and dated by a teacher or exams officer within the school and show the school stamp/logo.

DIRECT DATA TRANSFER

Over the past few months we have worked with awarding bodies to try and reduce the admin and beaurocracy burden on providers and employers.

  • Pearsons (Edexcel / EDI) – Trial with Large Employers to get electronic

confirmation of completions to save scanning of certificates

  • C&G – Electronic transfer of completions to enable providers to use

C&G Walled Garden, e-certificates, and the ability to have direct data feeds in to ACE.

  • Meeting with a further 26 awarding bodies over the coming months

with a view to engage all in direct transfer.
