Population All faculty who are doing research but have no full professorship (or ì the equivalent in research institutions like academies of science: Senior researcher) (i.e., we look for Teaching assistant, Junior Research Fellow, Assistant/Junior Professor, Associate Professor, Research Fellow …) We decided in the Podgorica meeting to include all faculty irrespective of the position. Don’t mind when the person defended her or his PhD, they will share ì this information when filling in the questionnaire. We will not only survey ECIs, we’ll have a control group of experienced researchers in dependent positions (and ECIs in more stable positions like associate professors).

  5. Sampling Random sampling of universities ì List of universities in countries ì Michael will select randomly universities ì List of young scholars ì Full coverage of young scholars ì ALL scholars of a selected university ì Between 130 and 150 young scholars per country ì At least 200 e - mail addresses per country (trying to get as many ECI contacts as possible ). If for a person, no email is available, list the person anyway. It is important ì for calculating the response rate.

  6. Disciplines Selection of disciplines to reduce number of potential people ì To achieve the 150 200 persons per country, the following decision ì tree is suggested: History ì Sociology ì Law and/or Economics (depending on the size of the University) ì English language and literature ì Small discipline (ex. Comparative literature, Art history, Minority ì language, Gender studies…)
