Possible Models

Several Possible Models

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Priorities & Interests

  • Keep students and staff safe
  • Provide for students furthest from educational justice and those requiring

in-person services to fulfill their basic education needs

  • Maintain student engagement/learning
  • Students physically present as often as possible
  • A model that supports in-person and online learning - fluid
  • Fair to parents with regard to childcare and learning resources
slide-17
SLIDE 17

“AM - PM” Model

  • Every student comes to school everyday for a half-day, Monday-Thursday
  • Longer workday for staff, which results in 4-day workweek

Positives:

  • Students at school daily so student engagement increased
  • Daily embedded planning time for teachers
  • Solves cafeteria distancing requirements
  • Consistent schedule

Negative:

  • Long day for teachers
  • Stretch Transportation resources
slide-18
SLIDE 18

“A - B” Model

  • Full days for students, but only half the student body on any given day
  • Teachers would have one day without students to support distance learning,

PLC work, and planning Positives:

  • Consistent schedule
  • Daily embedded planning time for teachers
  • Full days for students

Negative:

  • Student engagement could be reduced
  • Students in school fewer days each week
slide-19
SLIDE 19

Other Models

  • We have not settled on a model for September.
  • No model is perfect. All models stretch our resources. The previous two

models align best with outlined priorities and interests.

  • Plan to collaborate further with stakeholders on model options before

selecting one and allocating resources.

Next Steps

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Next Steps

have an idea of what’s possible

  • Conversations with BEA; will have similar meeting w/PSE
  • Looking at methods to get staff feedback and buy-in
  • School board needs to approve the back-to-school plan prior to August 20,

2020

○ Submit approved plan to OSPI

* Tight timeline. Communicating plans to parents.
