Our approach is now based on active engagement with all the people who have a stake in the waterways. We need to show that we care; e; to be open in our communications; to promote local cal ideas and support local communities; and that we offer genuine invo volv lveme ment nt in our work. Underpinning all of this we must continue to strive for excell llenc nce in all that we do.

Our canals have a significant and unique role to play, connecting people, places and opportunities by improving the physical environment and prospects for people and the wider economy, as well as supporting carbon reduction and environmental sustainability. The canal network already generates public benefits to local communities and the economy within the South East, but they have the potential to deliver so much more.

  16. While structural changes are in the operations and technical directorate this new focus on customer service affects everyone The customer will become central to everything that we do Everyone needs to support the Waterways as the face of the Trust

  17. Focus on customers, the operation and maintenance of the waterways and the management of community and customer relations to deliver the Trust’s Strategic Objectives. The Waterways will be the local face of the Trust.

Excellent Waterway Team • Continued to meet our key performance indicators, always • within top 3 waterways Continued success working with our valuable volunteers • now have 187 individuals and 25 partner groups Delivered our works programme to budget and time • Looking Forward to the Future Welcome the opportunity to engage more with our • customers and become the ‘face of The Trust’ New Structure is taking shape, key staff in place • Very excited about the addition of Stoke Bruerne Canal • Museum to the Waterway and the opportunities this brings

  22. Grow owth th of Co Comm mmunity unity Group oups s & A Adop option tions • We want to engage our local communities and for them to take ownership of their local waterway. Blisworth is a prime example of this in action • Become a trusted partner • For our staff to work alongside the adoption group to deliver our common objective • Engage the young people from the community through education, active involvement and create the canal advocates of the future

  23. Volu luntee nteeri ring • Just over 2000 individuals have volunteered directly for the Trust in the past 12 months. On top of this we’ve worked with 256 partner groups, M&S being one, local resident’s associations being others • In the South East, it’s 187 individuals and 25 partner groups • We want to increase the number of volunteers in all areas. To continue the success of Volunteer Lock Keepers and Welcome stations but to also have volunteers working with our own staff taking an active part in delivery of our works programme • Volunteers to enjoy the experience, want to comeback to us, and to encourage others to join us

  24. Natural tural Heal alth th Service vice • Expansion and promotion of health walks and canal based activities in conjunction with GPs • Creation of a network of angling development locations • Encouraging active use of the waterway by extending canoe, kayak and cycling activity

  25. Key Subjects:- • Maintenance, to ensure ‘usability’ for all user groups • Boating, adherence to rules, enforcement by The Trust • Improve visitor experience , promote tourism • Support wildlife conservation • Investment and improvement in angling • Success/reliance on fundraising
