  12. International Commission on Peace & Food (1989-1994)  Established, staffed and financed by MSS with Dr. M.S. Swaminathan as chair & 25 leading international experts & 3 MSS staff.  Studies on food security, employment, nuclear weapons, global governance, economic transition, development.  Conducted conferences in Italy, USSR, Italy, Norway, USA, Jordan.  Report submitted to UN Sec Gen & all UN members in 1994

  13. Collaboration with Gorbachev  In 1994, MSS collaborated with former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev to organize an international conference in Moscow on alternative strategies for economic transition in Eastern Europe.  President Gorbachev chaired most of the sessions.

  14. Hyperinflation in Yugoslavia  Studied relationship between inflation & development in India  Studied Soviet strategy in 1920s.  In 1993-4, Yugoslavia suffered highest inflation recorded in world history  MSS team member Dragoslav Avramovic appointed Governor of central bank  Inflation wiped out in a few weeks

  22. New Economic Theory There is an urgent need today to understand why the old theories were created, where and why they fail now and then propose a feasible, more efficient alternative. This is the rationale and justification for a re-evaluation of the fundamental concepts and premises of modern economic theory with the goal of evolving a truly human-centered economic theory and practice. MSS is collaborating with an international working group to explore fresh approaches to the Wealth of Nations & Human Welfare.
