Research Internship Scheme

  • For undergraduate students currently participating in the Brazilian Science

without Borders (SWB-CSF) programme in DIT.

  • The programme will take place during the period 23rd May to 22nd July 2016
  • Participants will be selected following a competitive process.

Objectives:

  • To promote DIT research activity to SWB undergraduate students
  • To enable SWB students to acquire research experience in an academic setting.
  • To provide some research benefit for a Research

Centre/Group/School/Lecturer

  • To identify suitable current SWB undergraduate students to possibly undertake

future postgraduate studies in DIT

  • To provide motivation for SWB students to strive for maximum benefit from

their academic programme.

Information

  • Students who are selected will continue to receive a stipend for

the duration of the internship.

  • Some additional funds may also be made available for the

purchase of materials or consumables in some Projects (eg laboratory-based studies).

  • Students will be registered on a 10 ECTS credit module entitled

Summer Research Internship which will require assessment of their work.

  • This module (10 ECTS) will be taken in addition to the 60 ECTS

credits undertaken already

  • Research internships can be hosted either by Research Centres/Groups or by

Schools (individual lecturers).

  • For the hosts, benefits of a research intern during the summer period may include
  • acquisition of results for a journal or Conference publication,
  • attainment of preliminary results for use in a funding proposal,
  • exploration of a novel research idea and modelling and/or analysis of

data.

  • The intern will be supplied with a desk, computer and engaged in research

activities for the duration of the internship.

  • The intern will also have a supervision structure and Co-ordinator
