Soccernites, ¡created ¡by ¡Sport ¡Against ¡Racism ¡Ireland ¡in ¡2009, ¡is ¡a ¡ youth ¡football ¡and ¡educa=on ¡development ¡programme. ¡

Why ¡sport? ¡ ¡

Because ¡sport ¡is ¡such ¡a ¡great ¡educator. ¡It ¡teaches ¡hard ¡work, ¡ discipline, ¡structure, ¡crea=vity, ¡and ¡most ¡importantly ¡ collabora=on. ¡It ¡is ¡also ¡simple ¡to ¡organise, ¡robust, ¡portable, ¡and ¡ easily ¡shareable. ¡

Soccernites ¡started ¡in ¡2009 ¡when ¡it ¡was ¡recognised ¡that ¡North ¡ Inner ¡City ¡Dublin ¡had ¡the ¡highest ¡percentage ¡of ¡ethnic ¡ minori=es ¡in ¡Ireland. ¡It ¡is ¡easy ¡to ¡replicate ¡anywhere. ¡

Soccernites ¡is ¡designed ¡to ¡occupy ¡kids ¡aHer ¡school ¡by ¡ developing ¡their ¡football ¡skills ¡and ¡improving ¡fitness, ¡whilst ¡also ¡ promo=ng ¡cultural ¡awareness ¡and ¡social ¡inclusion ¡using ¡the ¡ UEFA ¡Fairplay ¡system. ¡

As ¡a ¡result, ¡we ¡are ¡now ¡seMng ¡up ¡a ¡separate ¡girls ¡sec=on, ¡and ¡ the ¡two ¡sec=ons ¡will ¡overlap ¡on ¡certain ¡occasions. ¡ ¡ Originally, ¡a ¡mix ¡of ¡boys ¡and ¡girls ¡aPended, ¡but ¡over ¡=me ¡ boys ¡dominated. ¡

The ¡facility ¡is ¡an ¡all ¡weather ¡pitch ¡located ¡in ¡North ¡Inner ¡City ¡ Dublin, ¡an ¡area ¡affected ¡by ¡crime, ¡poverty ¡and ¡drug ¡abuse. ¡

The ¡coaches ¡are ¡all ¡registered ¡UEFA ¡badge ¡holders. ¡ Zuby ¡Ufoh, ¡above, ¡was ¡a ¡professional ¡player ¡in ¡Poland. ¡

Soccernites ¡promotes ¡the ¡small-­‑sided ¡game ¡to ¡provide ¡ maximum ¡contact ¡=me ¡with ¡the ¡ball. ¡

Strength ¡and ¡condi=oning ¡exercises ¡are ¡carried ¡out ¡by ¡specialists ¡ and ¡students ¡from ¡the ¡Limerick ¡Ins=tute ¡of ¡Technology. ¡ ¡

¡Sport ¡for ¡Cultural ¡Integra=on, ¡Physical ¡Literacy ¡and ¡Sportsmanship. ¡ Soccerniters ¡also ¡benefit ¡from ¡educa=on ¡through ¡sport ¡workshops ¡

And ¡get ¡the ¡opportunity ¡to ¡travel ¡to ¡solidarity ¡tournaments ¡ such ¡as ¡the ¡European ¡StreeXootball ¡Fes=vals ¡and ¡FIFA’s ¡ Football ¡For ¡Hope ¡Fes=vals. ¡
