A SUSTAINABILITY WORKING GROUP

Aimed at identifying collaborative campus-based solutions across academics, operations, research, and campus life

The prioritization of initial working groups was informed by three bodies of work:

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS); SIU’s most recent report

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

ENERGY RESEARCH SURVEY

 Saluki Energy Focus Group works on a CAMPUS level, but we want to

have impact GLOBALLY:

 Understanding our strengths: the expertise of our faculty, how it can be

applied to our local environment

 Uncovering new opportunities: Under-explored areas of research and

potential new areas of research and collaboration

 Applying these new insights to research, education, partnerships and planning  Growing and sharing this new knowledge  Faculty: Please participate at energy.siu.edu.

COMING SOON: NET

  • ZERO SALUKIS

 Goals:

 1) Helping new and existing facilities (buildings, offices, etc.) to determine

energy efficiency measures (equipment, mechanics, etc.) to minimize emissions from electricity, heating and cooling, then

 2) Offsetting remaining emissions with campus projects

 SIU Carbondale Campus becomes a living laboratory

SALUKI GREEN ACTION TEAM (SGAT)

 A Sustainability Office program supported by SEFG  A weekly educational email is sent to group members including students

faculty and staff

 Emails include tips on simple actions to reduce water and energy usage

and on developing positive habits.

 The next Meetup is April 24 at the Sustainability Hub – interactive

activities to learn about sustainability

 Now: Join the Drawdown EcoChallenge  Visit sustainability.siu.edu for more information.
