What am I doing? Strategic:

• Supporting and meeting Access Panels across

Scotland

• Listening to what you are highlighting as issues

within your area (e.g. transport)

• Collating those issues and reporting them back to

Scottish Government

• Seeking out new ways for Access Panels to grow

and influence public policy decision making

• Representing Access Panels at various stakeholder

groups (e.g. Cross Party Groups, SARF, Roads for All, Digital Inclusion Scotland, Keys to Life etc)

• Fife, Midlothian, Falkirk, Stirling, Alloa, Wick,

Lochaber, Sutherland, Inverness, Ross & Cromarty, Skye, Harris, South Uist, Barra, Aberdeenshire North, Borders and individual members from many many more…!!

National Statement of Housing Ambition:

• SDEF are pushing for 10% of new build housing to be accessible:

consortium led by SDEF, Inclusive Living in Scotland, Glasgow Centre for Independent Living and Inclusion Scotland Blackwood Scotland:

• Looking to work together to promote best practice design standards through

the BI:LD (Building Inclusive: Living Design) website Scottish Youth Parliament:

• Looking to work with the SYP to raise awareness of Access Panels and the

work they do. Also looking to work with SYP and YoungScot on engaging with young disabled people and encouraging young Scots to join their local Access Panel.

What am I doing? Day to day:

• Helping develop & drive SDEF’s strategic direction
• Reviewing SDEF procedures and updating as required

(e.g. Access Panel Toolkit)

• Providing technical advice on access issues /

legislation / design / best practice

• Supporting the N.A.S. Team & Access Panel Training
• Networking with other organisations Disability

Roadshows – with Morven!

• Identifying ways to increase SDEF membership
• Promoting Access Panels & SDEF to others

Why am I doing this?

• Vital Access Panels & SDEF are represented and heard at

Government levels.

• Vital that Government sees & recognises the wide range of

work that Access Panels & SDEF members do.

• Vital that Access Panels & SDEF continue to be seen as the

‘go to’ organisation on disability.

• Vital that Access Panels & SDEF continue to grow and

develop.

• Vital that Access Panels & Members are supported and given

the opportunity to ‘Have their say’

SDEF is a member led organisation!
