  • Entry process/screening:
  • Hand-washing on entry to all schools, with soap and water or hand

sanitizer

  • Screening for symptoms in children and staff, including

temperature-taking

  • An isolation room at each school
  • Clear protocols for communicating with students, parents and staff who

have come into close/sustained contact with confirmed cases

  • Limiting access to the nurse’s office and creating a secondary area for

triaging other student illnesses or injuries

  • Communicating directly and immediately with staff, parents and

community regarding cases and how the district responded.

SCREENING FOR SYMPTOMS OF COVID19 For All

Symptoms can include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. To ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment, we require:

  • Parents to home screen students using a self-attestation form or app and

keep the child home if they screen positive for symptoms

  • Staff are required to use a self-attestation form or app prior to or upon

arrival at school and must remain home if they test positive for symptoms.

  • Tiverton will require using self-attestation and submitting the form daily

through electronic means

  • Tiverton will also use on-site temperature checks, especially if a positive

case is found in the school

ON-SITE SCREENING

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and reduce risk of exposure to our employees and visitors; temperature and health screening is in place at all campuses. Screening will remail in place until the district has determined, by guidance from the state and local health authorities and the applicable governmental requirements that it is safe to discontinue. Temporal thermometers will be in use at all schools. Your participation is important to help us take precautionary measures to protect you and everyone in the building!

COVID19 On-Site Screening Process: The screening process is conducted for each employee prior to their duty begins. Before duty begins, employees should report to front office to drop off the screening form or uses the online form, if needed:

  • Administrator /Nurse team asks or presents each employee the screening questions
  • Administrator /Nurse team assesses employees for any overt signs or symptoms
  • Administrator/Nurse team takes each employee’s temperature using a non-touch

thermometer Other details:

  • The COVID19 team is coordinated by: SUPERINTENDENT
  • IF employee reports symptoms or direct exposure to COVID-19, the employee will be

invited to the isolation room.

  • IF temperature is 100.40F or higher, or the employee exhibits visible symptoms of illness

consistent with COVID-19, the employees will be invited to the isolation room.

ON-SITE SCREENING- STAFF

If you feel symptomatic for COVID-19 at work, contact your principal and/or superintendent immediately Telephone and/or email are preferable communications. Using your classroom communication system is also recommended. The nurse must use the appropriate PPE prior to providing assistance to the symptomatic employee. The nurse is to take the symptomatic employee to the designated isolation area for further evaluation. From this point forward, all employees coming into direct contact (less than 3 feet) with the symptomatic employee are required to use all PPE Once the symptomatic employee arrives at the isolation room: Employee is given a mask and gloves (to help protect other employees and prevent spread any potential virus) All employees continue to maintain 3-6 feet distance at all times. The District Nurse completes a COVID-19 Case Form with the symptomatic employee. If the employee is suspected to have COVID-19 symptoms, the employee is sent home and/or directly to health center and must seek and present medical clearance to return to work.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

Social distancing is a simple yet very effective mechanism to prevent potential infection relying on simple distance to avoid infection. In practice for Tiverton, this means:

  • Staying at least 3-6 feet from others as a normal practice
  • Eliminating contact with others, such as handshakes or embracing coworkers, visitors, or

friends

  • Avoiding touching surfaces touched by others to the extent feasible
  • Avoiding anyone that appears to be sick, or is coughing or sneezing

Social distancing in our school includes classrooms, cafeterias, common areas, entrance/exit areas of work locations, and offices.

6 FEET

slide-11
SLIDE 11

SOCIAL DISTANCING

Limited interaction: Tiverton has a clear approach that limits the number of people staff and students coming into close contact on a daily basis. Stable groups will remain 14 feet apart from one another at all times. Lockers will not be used; Stable groups will use the same physical spaces including bathrooms; shared spaces should be cleaned between groups Elementary + Middle: Stable groups of up to 30 including staff (15 for limited in person scenario); some meals should occur in the same space as classroom activities other meals will be served distancing stable groups by 13 feet High: Stable groups (same # as elementary/middle) 6 feet of distance and face masks in use; cannot exceed state maximum for group gathering during mealtimes and partitions are encouraged. Classroom layout: all classroom layouts will strive for 6’ between students and a consideration of all building space to increase instructional capacity Students will have assigned seats and be facing forward, where possible

EFFORTS TO PREVENT SPREAD & AVOID INFECTION

Disinfection measures have been put in place and are taken routinely, based on frequency mentioned to disinfect workplace surfaces, chairs, tables, etc. and protect employees.

  • The facility was completely sanitized and disinfected before re-opening
  • This baseline of clean will be upheld with the Disinfection Protocol
  • The Disinfection Protocol will be followed regularly whereas the Deep-Cleaning and Disinfection Protocol is

triggered when an active employee is confirmed positive for COVID-19 by a medical doctor; the deep-cleaning would be carried out by an external, professional service. The Disinfection Team is led by: Director of Operations Mr. Michael Mendes The disinfection team is trained and equipped to use special Personal Protective Equipment to deal with potentially harmful chemicals used in sanitization. All employees have an active part in disinfection. Good personal sanitary practices including washing hands after restroom use are necessary and expected. Covering your cough, maintaining social distancing, and cleaning your work or other visited areas are important in keeping yourself and others safe. The disinfection team will be supplied with gloves and masks. Tiverton Public School staff will use the signage provided to indicate the room for sanitizing and disinfecting. See Signage on next slide/page

EFFORTS TO PREVENT SPREAD & AVOID INFECTION

If an employee or student becomes ill during school, he/she will immediately report to the nurse’s office and the case form will be completed. Once the employee or student arrives at the isolation room in the nurse’s office, immediately provide them with a mask and gloves. Explain that this is to help protect

  • ther employees and students and prevent the spread of the potential virus.
  • The nurse must complete the HANDOUT: Suspected COVID19 Case Form and

call the local health authority to seek advice regarding transportation and location.

  • The nurse and others attending to the suspected infected person, should also wear a

protective mask and gloves while working with the suspected infected person.

  • The nurse will direct the ill employee to leave work or call the parent of the student

to be picked up and go home.

  • The nurse and supervisor must identify persons who may have come in contact with

the suspected infected person. Unless required by the local health authority, the name of the employee should not be provided.

  • Advise employees that they may have been in contact with a suspected employee

and to carry out self-screening every morning, and based on the results, contact the Superintendent’s office.

  • The isolation area and suspected employee’s or student’s work area/classroom must

be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, in addition to all other common surfaces recently touched by the employee or student.

PPE- PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Some employees may be required to use Personal Protective Equipment; PPE is used for employees that may come into direct contact with COVID-19 positive employees and for disinfectant team members to protect their skin from regular use of cleaning chemicals. Our top priority is protecting our people- STAFF AND STUDENTS. Based on CDC findings, the district does not require or recommend that our employees wear gloves except for: 1) Isolation Team Members and, 2) Those performing disinfection of common surfaces per the guidebook. The district nurse will provide training on the frequency of changing the gloves and how to remove gloves properly. The nurse will also provide training and guidance on how to properly wear masks.

slide-17
SLIDE 17

HAND HYGIE IENE AND RESPIR IRATORY ETIQUETTE

Teach and reinforce handwashing with soap and water for at least 20

  • seconds. Especially in elementary

schools where we have a sink in most classrooms.

Hand sanitizer is used if soap and water are not readily

  • available. Hand sanitizer will be

available in every classroom. Encourage covering of coughs and sneezes with a tissue.

slide-18
SLIDE 18

CLOTH FACE COVERINGS

  • Tiverton will require face masks for all students in grades 3-12, to be worn at all
  • times. Teachers will have the latitude to provide students “mask breaks” once they are

in their stable groups.

  • Face coverings are most essential in times when physical distancing is difficult.
  • Cloth face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is

unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms.

  • Inform staff and students of the need to clean their facemask between uses, or to

dispose of it between uses (if disposable).

  • Visitors are required to wear facemasks indoors and when interacting with students
  • utdoors.
  • Face masks are required outside of stable pods (staff) and when 6 feet distance is

not possible (students) unless it would be damaging to one’s health.

slide-19
SLIDE 19

SHARING

Discourage sharing of items that are difficult to clean or disinfect. For example, sharing of school supplies. Keep each child’s belongings separated from others’ and in individually labeled containers, lockers, or other areas. Limit the use of supplies and equipment by one group of children at a time and clean and disinfect between use. Example: computer labs, library books, etc.

slide-20
SLIDE 20
  • Space seating/desks at least 6 feet apart when feasible.
  • Turn desks to face the same direction, or have students sit on only one side of tables, spaced

apart.

  • Create distance between children on school buses per Department of Education guidelines.
  • Provide physical guides, such as tape on floors or sidewalks and signs on walls, to ensure that staff

and children remain at least 6 feet apart in lines and at other times.
