Digitizing the Municipal Library of Gjirokaster Objective of the Action Create a digital representation of the content of the Municipal Library of Gjirokaster fully compliant to the Balkaneana and Europeana standards. In the framework of the project 1.000 books, newspapers, magazines, etc. are digitized 50 hours of video, 50 hours of audio and 500 photos brought to a modern digital form The Project is co-funded by the European Union and by National Funds of Greece and Albania under the IPA Cross-Border PROGRAMME "Greece - Albania 2007-2013" Balkanean

  26. Methodology of Digitalization • A lot of sources were gathered selecting the best available content. • Local authorities help was decisive during all the content selection procedure, from the contacts with local studios and photographers till the detailing of the records related with the content.

  27. ETHNOMUSICOLOGY PANORAMA • The basic guide of the project is the study of ETHNOMUSICOLOGY PANORAMA OF GJIROKASTRA REGION, which is not just a study but the best expertise ever about the essence of the folk in our specific South region of Albania.

  28. Photos • The basic sources about the photos are from: • local photographers • Institute of Culture Albums & • Internet. • All photos are in high quality jpeg format.

  29. Photos Content • The majority of photos are from the Folk Festivals of Gjirokastra & from folk costumes of the South Albania. • There is a great number of gathered photos that couldn’t be included because of the low resolution

  30. Audio • Audio has a good quality with AGO AGO YMER AGO small exceptions of old songs, where the audio processing target is to maintain their originality CAJUPI • Songs are archived in high quality mp3 files

  31. Videos • Most of local videos are converted from DVD format, in Ne dy male me debore separated titles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yer_kkMOXxs • An important resource remains internet, especially high quality videos from YouTube. • There were not so much things to do with the quality of some important old videos.

  32. Digitizing the Municipal Library of Gjirokaster To digitize the books and newspaper digitization equipment (scanner) were necessary The choice was made based on the (restricted) budget and the nature of the artifacts Two scanners has been purchased Fujitsu Image Scanner ScanSnap SV600  books Avision AV5400  newspapers, magazines The Project is co-funded by the European Union and by National Funds of Greece and Albania under the IPA Cross-Border PROGRAMME "Greece - Albania 2007-2013"
