OUR COMMITMENT

SAFETY

Student and staff safety is our top priority. Plans will reflect guidance from DPI, CDC, Department

  • f Health Services, American Academy
  • f Pediatrics, and the Dodge County

Health Department.

INSTRUCTION

Plans will reflect a preference for a daily face-to-face classroom experience for our 4K-12 students with a focus on measures which will allow the district to safely open

  • schools. We will also offer a full virtual

school experience for families who choose not to send their students in person.

FLEXIBILITY

Continuity of Learning plans will be developed and kept fluid to ensure our district can easily transition to at-home learning in the event that we cannot safely provide full-day face-to-face classroom learning for a period of time. This will be done with staff, student and parent capacity in mind, coupled with acknowledgement of the financial resources available within the district.

INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS: LANDSCAPE

THE LEARNING LANDSCAPE

The 2020-21 school year will look different, and we are proactively planning for multiple scenarios for teaching and learning:

  • Our plans will be flexible and include shifts between an in-person physically-distanced

learning model, a hybrid blended learning model and a full virtual learning model throughout the school year.

  • Health and safety protocols will impact many aspects of school operations, including

teaching and learning. Health and safety recommendations may change during the school year as new best practices develop.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS: FACE-TO-FACE

FULL DAY FACE-TO-FACE CLASSROOM MODEL

Return to Classroom - Students and staff practice operational safety procedures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

  • Staffing - May be reassigned to support distancing and safety procedures enabling students to return to the

classroom with smaller class sizes. Teachers will rotate rooms and students will stay in one room with their cohort.

  • Schedules - Daily schedule modification (ex. lunch, recess) as necessary, with start and end of day potential

staggers, and classes staying together as a cohort. MHS will transition to a 4 period A day/B day block schedule to limit daily transition times.

  • Social Emotional - On-boarding students and staff safely to develop a welcoming environment based on new

guidelines.

  • Resources - Will require additional resources to support work and systems. All students will require access to a

personal mobile device and supporting curriculum, use of a Google Classroom online platform and Class Dojo at grades K-2.

  • Alternatives - Students and families who are not comfortable or have health concerns will be provided with an
  • nline/virtual option through the district.
  • Communication - Ongoing and systematic communication to staff and families.
  • Moving Among Models - May need to move among instructional models based on positive COVID-19 cases within

the community or individual schools with a preference for traditional classroom learning in a safe and healthy environment.

slide-12
SLIDE 12

INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS: BLENDED

HYBRID BLENDED LEARNING

Temporary Virtual Experience - Students in face-to-face instruction may need to temporarily quarantine at home for a period of time. This will guarantee the continuation of learning. Flexible virtual experiences may be built into the calendar as needed to support the health and safety of all.

  • Staffing - Classroom teacher would provide temporary virtual learning experience.
  • Schedules - Students will be provided with virtual learning schedule options, which will include a number of

instructional methods including live streaming and recorded lessons. Face to face times may be adjusted to enhance physical distancing aligned with Dodge County Phase status.

  • Social Emotional - There will be a continuation of student/teacher interaction through virtual methods and

students will continue to have access to social emotional services

  • Resources - All students will require access to a personal mobile device, internet connection and supporting

curriculum.

  • Alternatives - Educational leaders and teachers will collaborate with families to best meet the emotional and

academic needs of all students.

  • Communication - Ongoing and systematic communication to staff and families
  • Moving Among Models - May need to move among instructional models based on positive COVID-19 cases within

the community or individual schools with a preference for traditional classroom learning in a safe and healthy environment

slide-13
SLIDE 13

INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS: VIRTUAL

MAYVILLE VIRTUAL LEARNING COMMUNITY

Full Virtual Learning: Families may choose a full virtual learning option for their children and will be offered a district provided virtual learning experience.

  • Staffing - Students will have access to an online curriculum to support their learning. An online teacher will be

assigned to monitor student progress and communicate with the student and family.

  • Schedule - Students will be able to engage in synchronous or asynchronous learning opportunities. At the

elementary students will be engaged in curriculum approximately 4 hours/day; middle school 5 hours/day; high school 6 hours/day. Teachers will be available daily for direct communications with families, and individual appointments will be able to be scheduled virtually.

  • Devices and Access - Students will be assigned a personal district mobile device and supporting curriculum, home

internet access becomes vital for all students.

  • Early Identification - Teachers will monitor for students struggling to engage with virtual learning experiences.
  • Resources - Will require additional resources to support work and systems – all students will need to have access to

a personal mobile device and supporting curriculum.

  • Grading - Traditional grading and assessments will be utilized.
  • Communication - Ongoing and systematic communication to staff and families
  • Moving Among Models - Students may move back to a face-to-face instructional learning model at the end of a

grading period.

HEALTH SCREENINGS & EXCLUSION

GETTING SICK AT SCHOOL

  • An isolation room will be near the health

  • If an individual at one of our schools is

identified with a positive COVID-19 case, we will work with the Dodge County Health Department to ensure all safety protocols are followed regarding contact tracing and quarantines.

HEALTH SCREENINGS

  • Daily health screenings will be required to

be completed by families at home every morning before school.

  • All staff must complete the same health

screening and questions every morning at home before school.

SCHOOL EXCLUSION

  • Individuals with confirmed or suspected

COVID-19 should remain home until at least 72 hours fever free AND until respiratory symptoms have significantly

  • improved. In addition, at least 10 days

must have passed since symptoms first appeared.

NEXT STEPS

❏ Share final, approved version of the Reopening Plan with District Families, Staff and Community ❏ Include Attestation Statement in online registration for parent/guardian sign-off on agreement with Reopening Plan ❏ Registration will include parent/guardian selection of in-person vs. virtual learning options by student ❏ Make adjustments to spaces and staffing based on registration results ❏ Finalize and communicate plans for individualized Open House event (in lieu

  • f typical large gathering-type event), if approved

❏ Determine whether additional PD days are necessary up front of the school year to enable teachers to be prepared (classroom movement, re-organization, familiarity with technology, virtual lessons, etc.) ❏ Review district calendar options to prepare for flexible learning
