Our Mission

  • To provide year-round programs in sports, recreation and

education for individuals with disabilities and health concerns, while building self-confidence, self-esteem and promoting positive human relations, attitudes, and behaviors. It Began With A Dream 50 Years Ago…

  • Recreation Unlimited continues the dream of Dick Ruff, who

founded the organization in 1958 to provide recreation activities for people like himself with disabilities.

  • Soon after, Jimmy Crum, former sports director at NBC 4 in

Columbus, became a friend to Recreation Unlimited. When Dick died in 1974, Jimmy and other community leaders ensured his dream would live on.

Today, Recreation Unlimited is…

  • One of Ohio’s largest provider of year-round programs in sports,

recreation and education serving over 3,700 individuals with disabilities and health concerns.

  • A 195-acre wheelchair accessible campus, which opened in 1989

as a result of a $7 million building campaign.

  • Known for its caring associate team and adaptable programs for

youth and adults with disabilities.

  • Debt free and fiscally sound.

Why We Must Grow

  • In the state of Ohio alone, Recreation Unlimited is currently

serving only 5%–10% of individuals with disabilities and health concerns eligible to attend a Recreation Unlimited camp, still leaving over 50,000–75,000 not being served, a number that continues to grow.

  • Government Funding options for individuals with disabilities and

health concerns to come to “camp” are being eliminated, restricted

  • r on wait lists.
  • By expanding programs year round, we have the goal of serving

up to 7,000 individuals with disabilities and health concerns.
