On behalf of everyone here at Bowerhill Primary School, welcome to a new and exciting stage in your child’s life. During this year your child will make new friends, enjoy new experiences and learn the vital new skills of reading and writing. We, teacher and parents, have the chance to work as partners to ensure that at the end of this school year your child will have a positive attitude towards education based on social and academic confidence.

At Bowerhill Primary School we use the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme.
so children… Read to learn for the rest of their lives
The children learn the letter sounds alongside a picture card. This helps the children to remember the sound for example ‘s’ is taught using the story and picture of a snake. The children will need to be confident with all of the letter sounds before they move onto reading. We will hold a reading meeting to explain the home and school reading schemes in September/October http://www.ruthmiskin.com
Throughout the school year the children in reception will be assessed on the Early Learning Goals. The Early Learning Goals form the basis of planning and the activities within the foundation stage. You will be informed of your child’s progress, using the Early Learning Goals, at the parent conferences and through a formal report at the end of the school year.
Tapestry builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years and primary education. Using photos, videos and diary entries, a teacher or early years practitioner, along with the child’s parents, ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they are growing and developing. The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely, and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and how much fun they’re having, whilst also uploading their own comments and media. The communication between staff and parents that Tapestry enables, helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential, from birth to the end of primary school. The Tapestry online learning journal is also available as an easy-to-use, secure app, meaning capturing key learning moments, and videoing milestones are even easier. Log in will be sent to you in due course As part of the assessment process we take photographs of the children completing activities. These will be put in the child’s
As a school we also have a Webpage, Twitter and Facebook account. These sites are used to celebrate the good work the children and the school are doing.
When starting big school children need to be able to:
You can increase your child’s confidence and self esteem by working on a range of independence skills. Look for opportunities to apply simple skills such as
safety.
At home you could practise these activities to improve your child’s co-ordination:
weathers and will get dirty and messy during the school day!
Please be positive with your children in preparing them for school and explain to them what will happen talk about the teachers, show them our pictures. On arrival it is very helpful if you can show your children where to hang their coats and leave their lunchboxes and bags. After meeting the teacher and some other children and finding a place to sit please leave promptly because your child will pick up any anxiety you may have. Most children, even if initially upset soon become distracted by their surroundings and settle down.
This year, as we have been unable to meet you or your child face to face we will have a phased induction process, this means that in September (all being well) the induction process will be… Wednesday 2nd September – Monday 7th Septmber 2020 We will be inviting you and your child into school, for a 15 minute meeting, to meet with the Teacher and TA and to see the classroom. Tuesday 8th September - 11th September 2020 We will be having half the class in on Tuesday and Wednesday to get them familiar with routines and school life and then the other half of the class in on Thursday and Friday. Monday 14th September 2020 All children in school full time!
