This method of punishment teaches the boys discipline, hard work and will make them not want to re-offend and end up back at Camp Green Lake.

Digging holes all day is a pointless activity and is not helping them to improve their personality. Mr Sir is using the children to complete the jobs that the adults could do and therefore the children should do something else If he had to dig holes all the time it would make him more miserable, bored and angry and he might become worse. It's not fair that he is being punished at camp for something he didn't do. When you dig Holes it doesn't make you feel any better

He would want to leave the camp and might end up dying.

He wouldn't want to be bad again because he would hate Camp Green Lake. He would miss his family and therefore want to behave at camp so that he could see his family. He would be feeling miserable at the camp and then when he returned to his normal life he would be grateful He would become bored/resentful and would change his life around.
