What happened?

  • Community based RWS introduced and

successfully implemented (2007-13)

– 80 projects – Borehole + networks + house connections (75% in-house, 25% - backyard tap) – Coverage increase from 0-15% to 92-96% – Households financial contributions are required

  • Challenge: remaining 4-8% hhs
  • Solution: community-led Social Cases

  • The Social Cases approach:

– important component of social mobilisation where $ contribution is required – Can help achieve universal access to water – Doesn’t have any national specificity, so it can be applied widely – Clear set of criteria is crucial – Require at least minimum level of community cohesion, trust, decision-making and financial management capacity.
